What did you think of the Steve McQueen version of the film?
Bone Shaker:
What did you think of the Steve McQueen version of the film?
It was a different type of film sort of a homage to Porsche specifically the 917 in the day.The filming and sets and scenes direction were stunning.
James Garner Grand Prix wasn’t half bad either.
But the opening scenes of Two Lane Blacktop define the car scene for me personally.

Any Mk of Cortina is MOT exempt obviously including Mk5.
it is yes,but myself and a certain number of Classic vehicles don’t agree with it. My Cortina has a lot of corrosion,I just don’t understand why would anyone drive a partially corroded car. Most Classics are close to showroom condition, and some are not

Car traded in , mrs having new puma st , was having new fiesta st but soon as she saw blue colour with black pack she had to have it , I’m apparently having her fiesta , which with 300 hp ( mapped ) is fun , but every day I’m sure the ride will get tiresome , got 3 k for focus so lots 3 k over 3 yrs & 32,000 , so I’m ok with that
Thank everyone for help , much appreciated
Good result

That’s the issue I’ve no idea what the issue is , EVEN FORD DONT APPEAR TO KNOW
a decision I’m sure they’ll end up regretting. To be fair replacing a vacuum pump and a timing belt then finding out that it’s not fixed the problem because it was a blown head gasket, or a valve issue etc etc, which could have been found by doing a simple cheap quick compression test first.
Assuming that it’s not a fault with the load map system which obviously ain’t going to be a nice simple throttle sensing one in this case.
Also bearing in mind the problem seems to have been updated from loss of power under load to a misfire and loss of power under load ?. Which seems to point to specific cylinder/s going down, under load, for whatever reason ?.
Going with the option of compression test first is generally the cheapest and simplest starting point given that info, even in the case of old school points and distributor.
As for the job offer I’m just counting down the months to collecting my pension next year not looking for a new career trouble shooting modern engines when older types were difficult enough in the case of engine load related issues.
Sorry to hear you are declining the job offer CF,. Ford UK will be crestfallen when they receive your decision, it is their loss.
However all is not lost from a local pov. we have salvaged something from your sterling advice.
I have passed on your wisdom to my boy…he now knows to check out all basic and potentially simpler and cheaper possibilities first,.and work up to what the most serious, involved and intricate time consuming (and very expensive) jobs could be, in the process of trying to determine a diagnosis on a modern engine.
He tells me you have revolutionised the process, he will now no longer just fit a new engine as a first option, where probably something more mundane, … the likes of an oil filter or similar. would have been sufficient.instead
I’m absolutely amazed in all the years he has ran that workshop that this has not occurred to him…furthermore he will be getting a piece of my mind for his shear incompetence.
So on behalf of Ford UK, our local dealership, me, my son …and of course Trucknet UK, can I offer my heartfelt thanks for the benefit of your expertise…as ever.

To be fair it’s worth going the extra mile in serious structural restoration of increasingly rare cars.Only the most criminally irresponsible owners would ignore such issues MOT test or not.

I’d be interested to find out the link between a vacuum pump going down v Dozy’s motor’s symptoms ?.
Also what codes would it put up to show a knackered head gasket or burnt out valves/seats ?.Bearing in mind the thing seems to have an appetite for head gaskets more than I have for steak and chips and Fuller’s ESB.
They didn’t say the pump had gone down carryfast , they said it was showing up as weak ( or words to that effect ) , that maybe why it’s still running but feels down on power etc , I’ve run it all week around town & other than eml you’d struggle to know there was a fault
Head gasket - all I can say is temp is fine , no loss of coolant , oil looks fine
I may get a 2 nd opinion as mrs has decided puma would be too big for her so has cancelled it and is staying with her fiesta st , I’ve got to find a car , but it’s still bugging me what exactly is wrong with the car so I may go down the route of a 2 nd opinion , or if right car appears I may just get shot .
What does a vacuum pump do on a modern petrol car? Obviously diesels need one for the brake servo

I’m actually developing a liking for Fords recently. The Missus has just got a brand fire new Kuga petrol hybrid and as much as I want to hate it, I admit it’s an awesome car. Over 80mpg even with me driving!
A guy at work has a new Ford Edge in carbon black, looks the mutts nuts.
I’ve got a hankering for a Deranged, which is basically a Ranger on crack.
No qualifications but I can ■■■■ in air through closed lips just like a mechanic.

Laser 5524 or something like that.
The Laser one is #60 but equivalents off ebay are about 20 quid
Basically it detects co2 gasses in the coolant and the fluid in the chamber changes colour

I do like fords , but of late we buy them as it’s easier as mrs / my girl uses mine a lot so easier with switches lights etc as they both run fords ( similar to when I hit on horn Daf & it’s on stalk on daf ( so used to scania )
But after sales seems all about money , you could say it’s my dealer but my girl took her 69 plate in with window switches all breaking to her dealer & she had to show them on internet the amount of people with same issue / my car to get them to change them ( there’s a obvious issue as we’ve had loads of fords with these switches and never had issue before ) & they’ve already gone again , now there claiming it’s her finger nails , as a nurse she’s not allowed wild fingernails , so I’m looking at civics as they’ve a good reputation , next door swears by them
I do like new kuga , lad over road has edge & it’s a big old bus , but I’m just going off fords , more after sales than car

Driven by blokes who are somewhat lacking in the trouser department…
just sayin, like.

Yes , I’ve been trying to get my head round this , though it does come up a lot online if you search power issues on this engine
The problem is Ford who I’ve paid £90 to diagnose the fault won’t guarantee paying them another £750 will sort the fault , which is a bit hard to believe , it’s not a Ferrari v12 etc , surely they get 100,s if not 1,000,s of these engines in
It’s no suprise though as they diagnosed the rattle from my mrs st after a test ride as her music cassettes , I went & brought a trolley Jack & it was a broken exhaust bracket

I can’t see it’s head gasket , there’s nothing I can see pointing to that , temp is fine , no loss of coolant , oil is fine , it’s similar to ford saying if changing vacuum pump doesn’t work we will look at cam belt , I’m struggling to think why that would put a eml light up , just effect power under load
But thanks for help
I’m no mechanic but I’m not seeing anything pointing me towards head gasket , no signs of emulsions / loss of coolant etc
