Another morning.. NO phonecall... :(

Another morning and no phonecall to work from any of the agency’s… im statarting to think i wasted my bloody time doing this… cant survive much longer with no work, then ill have to go back to the stress and crap of life on the busses… :frowning: something i DO NOT want to do!

Give them a ring. Unfortunately work does not get given on a plate. If you still have no offer of work by the weekend go and sign up with other agencies.

take ya mobile with you and go and use the day to go around the local companies make your face known and you never know one of them might have had someone just phone in sick and they need a driver :bulb:

Im already on with that now, I cant wait forever! :unamused: the big problem is… sorting the ■■■■■ out from the good ones! Im currently on with driverhire, and im awaiting a call back from top gear…

gonna give it another hour, then jump on my motorbike and go for a ride around, see whats what! ill more then likely have to go down to top gear anyhow to sign up after the call back…

cheers

Go down to the local recycling center , they will normally give newbies a chance and if anything like round here they are always asking for drivers on the kerbside collection , dont be put off , the wagons are normally rear wheel steer and you can get in and out of some very tight places and the lads always have a good laugh whilst working :bulb:

As far as I can make out from this thread you only passed the Cat C test on Monday

No offence intended mate, but assuming that you did some research before doing the HGV training you must have known what the work situation is like, I can understand your frustration but a week is no time to be waiting for work in what is a not particularly busy time of year for road transport.

Get out there and sign up with as many agencies as you can, also try the companies that have their own transport.

well, maybe I was a little ill informed… the agency i was with first “helped” me out with my test and training (got me a better price) and told me there would be plenty of work once i was class 2…

hmmmmm yea…

Im now signing up with agencies in Yorkshire, as Manchester seems to be dead!

Good luck, I hope you find something

I wish I had a PSV/Bus Licence to prop’up my HGV …

Like the guys on here are saying, " Work is thin on the ground at present "

It not just the time of year, but the whole haulage industry.

Look at the news,
example : Tesco ( big supermarket chain ) ,Just made A LOSS.

2 years ago, I left Stable employment with a 1st rate employer,
to help my misses who was struggleing to look after our children.

Now that the children are in nursary, she can manage again, so I got off my backside & found work.

A lot of the employers I visited seemed reluctant to give me work:

i: There worried I might walk out at short notice
ii: I havent driven an HGV for 2 years.

How-ever, I managed to find some 10 minutes down the road, virtually right on my doorstep
OK, Not the Artic work I was hoping for, They have a full-house of class-1 drivers at present

Hence Im driving a 12ton Puddle Jumper ( Day work, Pallet network, Not ideal )

But Im on the Books as a Full-time driver, & its Paying the Bills :exclamation:

PS: Driver Hire, Are’nt the best Agency on Planet // Lots of broken promises, In my experience.

But no Agency can provide you with work they dont have ( No matter what they promise )…

I can understand your disappointment, How-ever groaning about it will just make you depressed.

Hence I suggest, do what you said, put fuel in your motor bike, go knocking on doors
( dont forget Failing to put your Hi-Vis on before enterin the yard, makes a very bad 1st impression )

with no HGV1, If yourve got a local industry with there own fleet of Rigids
knock on there door 1st ( even consider driving Tipper’s for a local quarry if necessary)

Dont be picky, Take anything your offered

Getting your foot in the door, has, and always will been, & will always be the 1st step :exclamation:

TRUST ME! you’d wish you hadn’t given the way the job is at the moment! ive come away from that as it was making me poorly!

that’s the problem i’m having, these companies are all keen till they find out im a new pass… then its the usual script “sorry but we need 2 years driving”… FFS… the fact ive driven PSV for 11 years doesn’t seem to matter 1 jot…

I REALLY dont want to go back on the buses… I can see myself going coaching till class 2 work picks up…

Cheers

Thats it, Be Positive, If your offered psv/coaching work, before you find something else, Take it.

The main thing is to remain POSITIVE …

Let us know how you get on ,

And yes there are employers out there that will take on new pass drivers.

Its usually the Agencies that require 2years plus previous experience,
And thats usually because they have dougy clients who have insurers who insist on it,
or same “client” has differculty in keeping there O-licence,
usually because there a new company, with dougy kit & working practices…or worse…

de 2xQ

Have u tried 3663 ?

PS: Such company’s will employ Fresh pass / virgin drivers, if there insurer will permit them to do so.

And thats because, of your keeness & in-experience your seen as easy to exploit.

i.e:
if the rules need bending on a job
( example overloaded wagon / excessive hours) your be there 1st choice.

In my experience, Agencies are brilient at finding Fresh Passes, such work.
and whats even better, when you get there, the dougy wagon & its load is usualy late-out as well.

Watch your back…

Finding work local, with a well known, estabished employer, is usually a safer bett.

de 2xQ

Ho yep, a fully fieghted Rigid, does NOT drive anything like the emply one you drove during your training.
Alow yourself plently of space to stop, and no harse braking or fast cornering …

Don’t wait for the phone to ring and never ever believe anything an agency tell you, they are the last resort or temporary shelter between proper jobs IMO.

Get out there, take some CV’s with you, knock on doors anywhere that operate their own lorries, sell yourself, show them you are someone worth taking a chance on.

Its the old way we used to find lorry jobs, it still works, if you happen to meet someone with some influence they can judge by your approach how you would come across as their representative to their customers if they employed you.

Just been onto ANOTHER agency. apparently they supply drivers to Bidvest (3663) in Royton, money seems ok, but with me being new, she wasnt sure if they would take me… :frowning: She’s gone off to phone them and ask the question!

B…

Try Darren bell recruitment they always have a lot of work in the oldham area and they take new drivers pays not brilliant but its work at the end of the day.

She’s just playing you a bit…3663 will snap your arm off! Give them a call yourself before the agency screws it up!

he’s told me, one false move and its CRACK BANG the whole lot will be dust! OOOHH EEEERRR!! I told him no sweat, dont worry ill be careful and sort it
