Hullo Bob,
Good to see you back as well, I thought youde left the country it
s been that long. Yes of course I´ll give your regards to Nick. Hes out of that job now with the Heart Scanner Trailer, poor old Johnie Hollands the Boss lost the contract to an Italian firm, or so I believe. Nick is now on for an Italian Supermarket firm of some sort, He has
nt said too much about it but I know hes away from home all week, but at least now he
s on the books and pays into the Italian health and Tax systems , so at the very least he will now get a pension at the end of it all. He still lives in Monza ( 14 years out there now ), and has what was his first girlfriend from school living with him out there. Kevin, I dont know if you remember him, but he
s my middle lad and he drove for me as well, is working for a firm on the Steel job in Middlesbrough. He seems very settled now. I am still in Sao Paulo, I shall be going back to Portugal on the 6th,May, I will have to have a few days there to check my little house over, then have a few days circulating. I shall drive back home for the Summer ( ? ) I should I think arrive in Dover about the 14th, May***. So I shall look out for you, and yes if you`ve the time it would be great to see you and have a good old chat. See you in the Wheelhouse or the Albion eh ?
p.s.*** So I shall be available for some work if anybody has some.
Cheers, Archie.
Hullo All,
Ive tried to download the picture of this Truck but like many others before me, I
ve failed.
LPS 1932 of John Fishwick. This was the first ‘V’ engined Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle in the UK in 1974.
It was personally imported by an owner-driver John Fishwick of Westerham, Kent for use on the Middle East run.
I remember having to fit a third line in order for the vehicle to meet C&U regs, the vehicle originally being piped for two line and German single line braking.
The press were very interested in the vehicle and several articles appeared proclaiming the coming of the Juggernauts!
Does anybody remember John Fishwick, he was a good friend of mine, we were both Catering Officers / Pursers in the Merchant Navy, we were both in Catering Management when we came ashore, and we both wound up as Owner Drivers. But over the years weve lost contact. He was subbing for I think Birdale ? in Kent and then for quite a long time he was on for Groupex , at Stratford. I
m not too sure if he was`nt in their office towards the end. But a real good bloke.
Cheers, Archie.
I remember John F, Archie but the circumstances of when and where evade me now.

sorry, i still dont know how to down load these bloody photos, this site is to complicated for me, why cant the make it simple, i am a truck driver not a IT WALLAH,TUT,
I SEE WE ARE BACK ON TALL STORIES, WELL THERE WAS THAT TIME HOGGY GOT THAT CONTRACt FRON INTERNATIONAL PAINTS AT FELLING,
IT WAS WORTH BUNDLES,
SO HE GOT NIGEL HASSAN,KIETH HILL,EDDIE NICKSON,MYSELF,GRAHAME SOPER AND BILLY REEDER(seth, as le sop calls him),
well it took us 4 days to load and 19 days to get the relevant permits, well know body had been to the moon before so the the permits had to be mickey mouse, "same as italy then) 4 days out reeder got his truck hit by a comet and it burst into flames, but we managed to rescue him, after a lot of minor probs we eventually landed on the moon and found to our surprise 20 other english trucks. all waiting for money or reload permits from mars.this is true, honest.
I know a bloke who did that job too, he got to the Moon and they refused to tip him because the load wasn’t on pallets
What an unbelievable trip, it sounds out of this world and if you told that to the young drivers of today, they just would not believe you.
How on Earth did you find your destination with out a Sat Nav were you being paid per kilometre and did your boss only pay you for one night out .
Who do you think delivered the satellites?

Hi all did you never hear about Henk the Dutchman- Van Cloggie’s star driver? He had been away for months on one of those jobs when nothing goes right, he had loaded to Outer Mongolia, then a back load of snow to the North Pole but waited there for weeks waiting for a load home, in the end he ran home MT. He got into the yard Sat AM totally knackered Van Cloggie said take a week off (unbelievable -I know!) ring me on Fri. So Henk rings in on Fri and was told I got a special for you, start early Mon AM the trailers loaded you are going to be the first driver to go to the Moon. Henk fires up - You are taking the p*** (in Dutch of course) how the hell do I get to the Moon? Van Cloggie said you have been away for so long , they have built a new road, head to Amsterdam get on the motorway and you will see the signs.
Henk gets in the yard at 3am trucks hitched up notes on the dash- he looks at the CMR’s del address John Smith The High ST. The Moon–customs clearance Sea of Tranquility customs post.Still not believing it of he goes Nr Amsterdam he see’s a new sign ‘To The Moon’ he follows it. Back in the yard next Fri all his mates rush up. Good trip one asked- Great he replied. Another one asked 'What is it like to be the first man to drive to the moon? Oh I wasn’t the first Henk replied, when I got into the customs there were 3 English trucks there- one had run out of money so he had gone on the p***, one had broke down so he had gone on the p*** the other one was in jail for having micky permits when he got out he went on the p***

Hi Archie, I could’nt open them either so Mac’s cocked up somewhere as for Freddie Noble I know his wife died a few years ago and he was working with Derek Garrard for a short while on some film work in morroco a couple of years ago so he’s still alive and kicking. I’ll always remember one of Fred’s stories about when he had a Scania 111 on his way back from the middle east and the alternator packed up in the middle of winter. On pulling into some services he saw a german 111 with the engine running & the driver asleep so Fred got underneath cut the belts and disconnected the alternator threw it in his truck & drove to the next parking, fitted it in the morning, got a jump start off a turk and carried on back to uk. Resourceful chap Fred.
Charlie
Freds still about & so was Mary at the end of last summer. A fine chap Mr Noble one of the best.

Hullo Fly-Sheet,
Well its certainly good to know that Fred is still about, do you know what he
s doing these days ? There seem to be quite a few of the old hands on the missing list. I wonder what people like Pat Riley, Glenn Campbell, John Collins, Ossie Mackintosh, Dave Wilson and Alan Piner are doing these days. The last time I saw Pat Riley was about 18 years ago, I had been visiting my parents near Maidstone, and I was just warming up the engine and writing out my Tacho card, when there was a knock on the passenger door then it opened and a voice said, Can I see your records driver, I nearly S**t myself, and there standing laughing was Pat, the Prat, he was doing a bit of roofing work he said… Last I heard of Glen, he was on for Frans Maas out of Wythenshaw, Manchester, John Collins, I dont know what became of him. I last saw big Ossie years ago now in the shell garage just before the Flyover at St.Dizier, he was sat with a blanket round him, he looked almost white, he said he had the Flu but he looked awful. The last I heard of Dave Wilson, he
d gotten divorced and was working at a garage up Spennymoor way. And Alan Piner I believe went onto pulling tilts of of Ramsgate dock, I heard he had three or four motors on the job. As I said I wonder where have all the good guys gone?
Cheers, Archie.

Hullo All,
Wow! I got a bit of a surprise last Saturday evening, I was just doing the entry paperwork at Asda in Didcotat the Gatehouse, I was Parked in the Supppliers to Asda Lane, when in comes a white DAF, tractor unit only. He came down the Asda vehicles lane so never had to come into the gatehouse, I saw this ugly old man looking out, ( not as old and ugly as me I might add ) he was staring at me and I knew I should know him, then it clicked, I opened the door and called out " Oi mate is your name Mciver ? " Yes he said, “cor fk me I know who you are, you’re Er, um, cor fk me I’ get it in a minute”. I said don’t worry I’ll catch you up inside. I never did though as he was picking up a trailer, and obviously and I was tipping. I have a large double deck stepframe trailer and by the time I got tipped and followed the road right round the perimeter he’d gone. But if you look on here Mac, it was good to see you mate, I may catch you again though, as I’m tipping there again tonight, if not all the best.
Cheers, Archie.
Its good to see the Anglo Greek thread come back up again.
Come on chaps, some more tales and pics please, lets keep this one alive!

Hullo Rita,
Why the angry faces, don’t take all these comments to heart, you always had friends when you were in the job, always somebody to talk to and have a meal with. Half of these blokes that make comments don’t even know you. Ignore it all, come on back and join in. It was me anyway that saw McIver last week, after twenty years !, the last bloke could’t even read eh?
Cheers, Archie.
