Hi Littlehotdog, I wonder if the Leyland Mastiff (or whatever) was driven by Reuben, the Jamaican guy? I’m sure he was the one who put a Bathgate cabbed 6w into a ditch along Tar Lane, Stanton Harcourt? He ran an 8w Volvo FL (N reg) as his last lorry before retiring.
No these all belong to my dad, he was owner driver for ameys in oxfordshire then moved to devon in 1989
hi toshboy, just got back off hols !! i think i do remember charly gannon ■■ but the others i cant place, long time ago now ,did you ever go to the london depot which had that bloody great dog who liked being sprayed with water? also do you remember vectis transport in s/hampton they ran aec s which ameys took over. in 69 i started on air products where i stayed for 26 years and took early retirement.

Hi Cryogent 2, i think Charlie was one of those once seen not forgotten types ! well built chap - i first came across him at BRS Cardiff rd Reading traffic. later period was when Ameys expanded and secured a number of BRS motors including some of Reading depot fleet and Charlie came along as Manager together with a director -John Bruard and another named Walsh iirc. dont remember the London depot but the dog rings a bell -messroom talk -i remember the Vectis takeover along with the Greenwoods one but i had been moved on to Premix by then.
In the Oxford Mail this week, people protesting about Hansons having a new pit near Cholsey to replace Sutton Courtenay. I bet most of these Nimbys have a gravel driveway or have had building work done…
Toshboy Dowsetts had them when building the m20 swanley to wrotham they reckoned
they were cheaper than mixers as they tipped the wet concrete there were two paddles
at the back supposed to give it a bit of a remix.
They couldnt get under the plant so some of the o/ds earned good money getting a radial
1 just to load them.info from Mike Taylor.
Regards Geoff.

Hi Mixer 11, welcome to this thread, i wonder if i ever knew your dad but the name does not ring a bell . i was at Aylesbury Premix early 60s so it was a long time ago .we used to have Dorchester materials around that time though. i worked out of Dorchester in the days of Don Winterbourne as well .he was plant foreman and later pit Manager at the new Queenford pit when Dorchester closed. Jack Chedd later went to Stanton in the transport office 70s,they were good days then and a happy firm to work for , until the Hanson got involved and went (still is in my opinion) downhill Yes the Long brothers as well -remember then on the night shift -sand to Heathrow, later to make good in the general haulage sector . toshboy
