Ambulance Drivers strike

Has any of our retired or non-working colleagues been asked to drive ambulances during the current strike?

And would any of you volunteer if asked?

We have more experience than many of the military drivers that have been drafted in, and I know that some on here also have first aid qualifications.

Would you do it■■?

But why would you cross a picket line?
The driving is a small part of the skillset to be an ambulance driver
I’d sooner have an army driver with basic first aid training driving a ambulance over a smelly old ex tipper driver with a limp.

I really don’t see what experience your on about an ambulance is basically a van with uprated suspension as far as I remember. Any prat can drive one

What about fire engine driver.
I wouldn’t mind having a go at that

Altough jobs only to cover holidays sickness and does say your expected to work if they go on strike

You’ve certainly got a high opinion of yourself then. I take it you are qualified to drive under blue light conditions?

I wouldn’t drive one. I’d never cross a picket line or do the jobs of striking workers regardless of my own personal feelings on their strike action.

Nor me.
I think they are only striking on non emergency/non serious cases, business a usual with more serious stuff.
That’s how I took it anyhow.

I would never dream of crossing a picket line in normal circumstances, however I would help out anyone in difficulty in an emergency situation if it was necessary. Someone innocent having a heart attack and needing to get to a hospital but cannot get an ambulance is a reason to help out in my opinion. Someone completely innocent and in need of help should not have to sacrifice their life because of a strike. The NHS ambulance drivers would understand this themselves, they have a skillset that no ordinary driver can replace such as paramedics. Simply taking an ambulance out to get someone to a hospital is not going to weaken their case. I fully support their cause and understand their strike and am 100% behind them in it. But a blue light patient is not in a positon to understand. If you was in dire need of an ambulance and a member of the public rolled up in an ambulance to take you there, would you look up at him and call him a scab and refuse to get in?

It’s not comparable to driving a goods vehicle in the slightest, Blue Light training is very specialised, same as being an ■■■■■■ Driver for AILs is specialised even though you’re driving a 3.5T

When it comes to wanting huge pay rises, many years ago I was given some sage advice, if you want more wages go get a better paying job because you won’t get any better wages if you stay in your current position

Why would a truck driver be called on to do it. Loads of ex/retired other blue light drivers probably on the list before truckers!

In the IT sector they advise staying somewhere no longer than a couple of years.

Was the OP suggesting that HGV drivers would be allowed to drive under blue light conditions?
Heck even the Army covering shifts cant do that. I NEVER SUGGESTED THAT. I’m talking about just driving from A-B in what is basically a Mercedes Luton van.

That being said, I do think I could do it pretty easily obviously. Because I am a good driver. Not that I’d want to.

You’d hope. Heck, prob better off using Black cab drivers and paying them double rate. That my give them a bit of incentive to go quick .

Yes do it in a heartbeat . Everyones got their own opinion of strikers,iv no time for them at all

Glad I ignored that advice. 20yrs in current (niche) IT role.

Crew job vacancies (incl salaries) - Updated Daily

Altough jobs only to cover holidays sickness and does say your expected to work if they go on strike

Unfortunately they’re only taking on 18 year olds in the advert. (Bit restrictive!)

I have not been asked but if I do it will " take a run and jump mate" no way. This country is or should I say the tax payers are paying 6 million a day to keep illegals in hotels and that does not include the cost of the channel taxi service …so if HM GOV can find money for this they should pay the NHS workers along with TRAIN service …the money is there get them paid :imp:
