i was driving down the M6 motorway for about half an hour, then i removed my drivers digital card whilst still moving.and placed it carefully in my wallet. the message “driving without a valid card” kept flashing up both on the dashboard and the taco head. i then carried on driving for another 4 hours then stopped for a 47min rest even though i knew it would not now be recorded on my digital card.
later on that same day, i drove another 4 hrs (still not being recorded on my card,) but by this time the message flashing on the dash was really starting to annoy me, so i placed my wallet over the dash so it would cover up the flashing message! but i couldn’t do anything about the “driving without a valid card” message that was on the taco head.
anyway after a break, i drove another 4 hrs then could not stand it any longer, so pulled into the services and took out my drivers digital card, and put it in the taco. this stopped the flashing message, and i felt better, so continued on my way.
How did you get your card out while driving? if i remember correctly, if you press the card eject button while drving, you get a “Ejection not possible” message.
you wont even get an “ejection not possible” message it just doesnt eject. Although if the card could eject it cant be recognising that the vehicle is moving so therefore a fault has occured and if there is a fault you would need to manually record your day so technically you could drive without a card in the machine but that would only be to get you to the nearest place to get it fixed.
of course its a wind up you cant remove the the digi card while the truck is moving,on the ones i drive the hand brake has to be on as well also he is breaking the driving hours
Next time you do it and the “driving without card” flashes just press OK and it goes to normal mode that way you should be able to drive 20 hours without stopping.
The tacho was faulty so you decided to to do a printout and make a manual record of your hours for the day and you took a nine hour rest after the first 9 hours?
Or you were in a 3.5 tonner with a tacho fitted but no trailer?
some trucks are exempt from tacho rules like concrete pumps, they are out lined the the vosa tachograph book.
If you were driving a in scope vehicle I would suggest getting a copy of the hgv tachograph book from vosa IT IS FREE.
