AEC needed a massive cash investment not a “merger” with their biggest enemy, which in reality was a takeover , then a gradual rundown of their much superior products .Some very strange decisions were made and a revelation in the AEC Gazette (AEC Society) that Lord Stokes wanted to kill them off in 1968.They had many projects on going which were quashed and a few overseas “tie ups” which were ended by big brother.Scandalous but sadly true
here is the old girl I cut my teeth on X MMB no power steering.
Power steering is for girls! As are synchromesh, heaters and windscreenwipers.

What a picture… and it reminds me…driving through Bordeaux, one hot sunny day in July 75, in one of our Saviem 340V8 Press demo Drawbars, I spied an almost identical “rear end”, both the colour of the dress, and hair, and (better) legs!!
Next thing all hell breaks out…Ive shot a red light, and then the Gendarmes whistle blew!!! Oh heck, I stopped, dismounted, and the b…g began!!
Then out came the notebook,…oh b…, Im in it now.
I was asked to explain why I had not seen the red light…I told the truth…The notebook closed, he pushed back his Kepi, slapped me on the shoulder, winked, and I was free to go.
That is why I loved working in France so much!!
Bon Nuit mes Braves.

Looks great John was it originally a unit?
Hiya Ramone she was new to the firm in the wrecker photo. i think she was a tipper and got made into
their wrecker when she was done with. when i bought her she had a turntable put on her(on the first page
on this site)but she was never worked as a unit. that wheelbase was the normal for tippers and Mixers in
the 60’s
John
It does look well John,a credit to you,get a 5th wheel back on it and do a bit of trunking.
I notice it was registered in Rutland 1964,do you know the original owner?

Hey adr, Hundreds of this typ have driven here, and all with the Bollekens cab as the pic shows, and was much loved in its time. Only the last and some lighter were only with Ergo cabs after the closure of Bollekens cab works.
Lots of fleets drove nothing else as AEC’s thereafter DAF took mostly over.
Cheers Eric,
