"Action" on climate change - was it just a passing fad?

With the earth recording it’s highest temperatures year on year and things looking blacker than they ever have - has the short term political futures of billionaire grifters like Trump and Sunak become more popular with the voters than doing anything to help the planet cool down?

I always had the feeling that humanity would be so stupid that it would burn every last drop of oil and let the future hang itself but I thought it would take a few more years - people already seem “bored” of the climate crisis and we havn’t even done anything about it yet.

Only when you have cut down the last tree, caught the last fish, and poisoned the last stream, will you realise that you can not eat money.

For reference as to how moronicly stupid people are, see Easter Island.

Not a conspiracy. Just something that we can do nothing about. It’s happened before and it will happen again. It is being used as a brilliantly conceived excuse to tax us and keep us in order. The “new religion” if you will. The majority of thr Western World can no longer be controlled by a fear of God or what may happen to them in the “next life”. CC fits the bill nicely.

During Covid I saw and heard several eminent scientists telling us that the effects if Covid would last for at least 10 years and the world would never be the same again.

Scientists are not always 100% accurate, nor are they always 100% honest.

So thats it then? We just keep pumping carbon into the air, the earth gets hotter and hotter the ice caps melt etc? All because we were too chicken**** to stand up to a few billionaires and energy companies?

Relax. It’s been going to cause massive flooding for decades. The Norfolk Broads is mostly below sea level. And it’s still no different to what it was when I was 5, 45 years ago.

The predictions are based on computer modelling using data from the last 150 or so years. So let’s ignore the 4 5 billion years if climate change prior to that shall we?

No one gets out alive. Humans will not be around forever, no matter what we do or don’t do.

Don’t worry about it.

What evidence are you basing your opinion on? A youtube video? Why are we recording the highest temperatures year after year? Why are ice caps melting?

And this idea of yours that “scientist sometimes get it wrong” so we should listen to clueless people who have never studied anything instead" does that really make sense? How often will the clueless people get it wrong?

Its like saying “truck drivers with 40 years experience sometimes get it wrong so why not let 10 year olds with no experience drive wagons instead”. See how silly an idea it is?

If your kid was seriously ill who would you listen to? A doctor who had studied for 40 years or a bloke down the pub who watched a few youtube videos?

Personally I think we should all bow down to our climate child god greta thunberg.

She said the earth will end in a few years and I believe her!

The problem with your argument is this.

All this has happened before. Prior to the Industrial Revolution… There have been many warming and cooling periods.

The scientists are putting forward a theory based on tiny amounts of evidence and the predictions of a computer. . Climate science is very new… It started as Global Warming but has been changed to Climate Change because not everywhere is warming rapidly.

Your last point about doctors . When medical science was as new as climate science, they thought humans had four humors. They treated people with mercury, lead and leeches and “letted” people by blerding them when they were ill. All of which made the situation very much worse.

As I said. Scientists aren’t always right.

Sure, at one point the earth was just a mass of boiling lava. But humans are now CAUSING it and have the ability to stop it. Why not make the effort?

Climate science isn’t that new - Exxon and Shell carried out their own research in the 80s and said if we keep burning fossil fuels the way we are the carbon in atmosphere is going to result in the ice caps collapsing, large areas of earth turning into desert and fresh water becoming scarce. That was 40 years ago and scientists are still saying exactly the same things and we’re recording the highest temperatures on earth ever recorded year after year. You don’t see anything that gives you pause for thought?

Scientists arn’t always right - but they’re right a lot more often than anyone else - we either listen to scientists or listen to blokes down the pub watching youtube and the local vicar.

You would take your kid to a doctor if he needed brain surgery wouldn’t you? Because medicine is a science, he’s studied for years, had experience working in it for years and knows what he’s talking about? You wouldn’t just listen to a bloke in the pub going “Doctors? Don’e believe in em mate. I’ve got a black and decker workbench, a drill and a stanley knife - you throw a bit of whisky over the knife and cut it out. I saw it in a John Wayne film once”.

It’s very new. 40 years in the scheme of 4.5 billion is very, very new.

You have to be seriously arrogant to think humans can control the way the Earth’s climate works.

Just supposing we comply with these new scientists. To make any difference at all, the entire population of the world would need to stop flying, stop driving, stop using tech and go back to living very simple basic lives.

Realistically, can you see that happening?

Much better to accept that we do what we can to a point. Because realistically, that is all that is ever going to be.

Why do you have to be arrogant to believe humans are causing climate change? If the climate scientists studying it say that’s what happening why is it wrong? What counter evidence have you got? Just a feeling in your water?

If we do nothing then we’re going to be living very simple lives anyway but with massive climate problems to deal with too.

But yeah - I agree we probably won’t do anything about it - Trump was laughing about half the US being under water and all the Trumpanzees in the audience giggled. It’s a shame tho - the earth was a pretty nice place.

No… You have to be arrogant to believe that humans can stop it. It has happened before. It will happen again. Mini ice ages and warming have happened several times in the last 1000 years.

If I say it has rained on a Monday for the last ten weeks, does that mean it’s raining because it is Monday? Or, because it is Monday, it must be raining? Or, would we need more evidence from a much longer time period to make the link either way?

Nothing will change. But governments the world over will make a fortune out of it in taxation.

You stop it by not pumping carbon into the atmosphere. It’s not complicated.

It’s no use trying to explain it when you havn’t a clue mate - it’s like trying to tell someone how to do brain surgery when you havnt a clue - you need years of study behind you. I can say “Well it’s raining today and it’s summer so that means everything is ok” but I’d just be pulling it out of my bottom. My take on brain surgery would be “Why not go in through the ear? That would be simpler than drilling through the skull wouldn’t it?” - it’s no use just guessing is it. If you havn’t a clue you havn’t a clue - that’s why it’s best to listen to the brain surgeon.

I don’t think governments will make much out of taxation - they’re too scared to tax the energy companies as it is. Basically the planet will be burned to a crisp for the sake of a few billionaires maintaining their lavish lifestyles.

Good luck with that.

I assume you dont heat your home, dont drive anywhere and dont fly?
Dont consume electronic goods?

If you do, you are part of the problem.

See what i mean?

It aint ever going to happen. If theybwere so worried, the scientists would be leading by example and not leaving it to a hysterical teenage girl to do it…

What caused the huge heating of the Earth prior to the Industrial Revolution then?
Dinosaurs’ ■■■■■?
