Looking at this image, i’ve never seen one of these used before, i’m guessing its to stop the cab slipping off the barrier, but to me looks like the pole is leaning against the glass?? and are those ratchet straps on the wheels? just wondered if someone can explain it as i’m probably not understanding the picture correctly, hope driver has speedy recovery and all other involved.
It’s a brace to stop the cab moving about / slipping while they extract the driver. There was prob quite a few people in the cab depending on how bad he was. It is stopped from moving / slipping by the two straps to the wheels.
I past the scene heading south around 30-40 mins ago, the Nisa truck is well & truely up on the barrier. Though the cab looks intact, the lower RHS corner is a it messy.
The picture doesn’t show you the saint gobain glass trailer nearby in lane 2 with a ding in the right rear corner either. AFAIK they shut the motorway for the air ambulance
I was watching this on camera, my area was quiet!, and the rear of the glass trailer looked a mess. There was a huge amount of oil/diesel, judging by the amount of zorb the ISU crew used, especially on the southbound c/way. A speedy recovery to all involved.

How did he manage to get the cab up onto the concrete barrier?
Judging by the ‘oil slick’ the initial impact with the Saint Gobain was in lane one, probably initiated by some plonker coming off the slip.
Hope all involved are okay.
You could tell it was friday and tempers were flaring in the queue behind, what possesses 2 coaches and an artic to use lane 3 to queue jump after the gantries showed the lane closures. And to the guy in the black Astra reg beginning MX07 I could see you knocking out a sly one , nearly spat my flapjack all over the windscreen.
Doesn’t seem to be much damage to the cab structure, so wondering why an air ambulance was needed, they’re usually used when death is imminent, perhaps the driver had a heart attack or similar prior to the accident, or wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, or something came off the top bunk and hit them during the impact

40+ tonnes will go where it wants when there’s enough speed involved
But I thought these new concrete barriers were specifically designed to stop vehicles getting onto the oncoming carriageway? By your argument, a few more tonnes or a bit more speed & we’re back to square one with that scenario■■?
I went past that southbound must have been minutes after it happened. The driver (or someone) was being treated by members of the public on the outside lane of the s/b carriage way. Looked like he was in the recovery position. Hope he is ok. Very chilling to see.

Yes. The car you can see in the outside lane was stopped. Behind that was a blue car stopped. And further back a van had stopped and blocked off the lane and helped divert people from further back.
