My new AA Trucker’s Atlas arrived this week, courtesy of Amazon and the Post Office.
This work features AA’s expert road mapping, presented in an A3 format atlas using an ultra large scale of 1:100,000 (1.5 miles to 1 inch). It provides essential information for truck and lorry drivers, with more relevant map detail than any other road atlas. Each page has been titled with its geographical location so you can turn to the page you need more easily. Static speed camera locations are pinpointed on the mapping in addition to a mobile speed camera listing. Also, essential information for truck and lorry drivers is included with a truckstop and roadside cafe directory, most ‘bashed’ bridges identified, Channel Tunnel and terminal maps, plus information on how to use the National Grid. More than 5,000 low bridges are identified on A roads, B roads and minor roads and all narrow minor roads are depicted.
In fact, this quote doesn’t do it justice. it isn’t a paperback, but (almost) a hardback. It includes width and weight limits on bridges, the truckstop list includes the price of overnight parking and the whole thing consists of NEARLY 400 PAGES!!!
I just got mine this week although it should have 1st published 31/03/07. Better late than never but not quite a match for the German truckers atlas but at least its a step in the right direction!!!
Not bad for the AA!!
yeah got mine too, I was also suprised at the size of the thing (dont look like thats going in my day bag then )
I ordered it when i thought i was going tramping again though now all i do in this job is mainly west wales and the odd venture over the bridge, Bloody typical
All in all it looks good though and who knows i may even get a chance to use it one day
What has the close up version got that the normal one hasnt 'cos at the bottom of the link Amazon are selling both together for a discounted price so there must be a difference between the 2? Why would you buy the normal if the close up has same mapping plus other features.

Close up 1.5 miles to the inch. Normal 3 miles to the inch.
4,700 bridge heights (compared to about 2,000 IIRC on the standard version) plus width and weight limits on bridges, list of truckstops (which are also marked on the maps) with prices for overnight parking, detail maps of 28 ports and freight terminals, speed cameras, fuel stations, a three page jam-busting guide.
Perhaps if I tell you that I have just weighed it and it weighs 2.36kg…
Having said that, it is too big and ■■■■■■■■■■ to use as your everyday map, and is best saved as a work of reference when travelling on an an unfamiliar route, saving a cheapie map for everyday use…
Hey that’s an idea for people who can’t afford a real one. Like the lads who do the knowledge, people could make a stand to sit above the dash with the open map in front of them.
Right I’m off to Dragon’s Den for an investment of £85,000 in return for a 10% equity in DashNav.
