Well the AA has got an app out that will monitor your driving over 200 miles and offer a discount on your car insurance depending on how your score is.
This is the score they gave me for the last 51 miles.
How can they tell it is YOU driving! You could be a passenger couldn’t you?!

Suppose you could yeah.
But still a positive way to get your insurance down.
Ha. I’d probably get “The AA would chance in hell insure you”…

Till you tell them you are a lorry driver then it will go through the roof. Save yourself the hassle of using the app and get onto Adelaide Insurance. They will most certainly be cheaper than the AA and everyone else for that matter!
A gimmick…
And I bet they knock off 5% if you’re lucky…
No app can assess your driving. They haven’t even mastered one that can function as a pedometer that doesn’t register you shaking the phone as ‘walking’ !!!

I have never experienced dearer insurance just because I am a truck driver, I think it’s a myth!

Any app can be cheated, but at the end of the day you only cheat yours self, not the app!
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Statistically,
Most Accidents ‘Occur Near Home’
Nearly two thirds of all road accidents occur between one and five miles from home, a survey has found.
A poll by a car insurance company showed that 30% of incidents occur within one mile of home, and a further 35% happened between one and five miles away.
A total of 13% occurred 6-10 miles from home and 11% from 11 to 25 miles. Just 5% of accidents occurred 26 to 50 miles from home, and only 6% at distances of more than 50 miles away.
… So given that, the quicker and the further you leave home the better ,
…and besides that , the milkman is due in half an hour

LOL
So you’re saying then that the results of an AA app, installed on your phone is going to always give an accurate indication of driving prowess?
It’s a gimmick. If it says you’re a good driver you’re meant to feel flattered so you give the AA a call about insurance 'cos they say you’re ace at driving!
It’s called Viral Marketing and common as muck these days!

So why are insurance companies using a similar device to reduce drivers premiums?
Do you think there is any difference between a black box and an iPhone?

Erm, only a massive one.

Like what, both record speed, probably what road your on, so will know the limit, were you are, cornering, harsh braking, rapid acceleration not that it’s possible in a truck, what more does it need to record?
An iPhone can’t record as much info with precision as a black box in the car will.
Plus, as others have said, it’s a flattering App so you’ll insure with the AA.

I will reset it, and lower my self to drive like a ■■■■■ just like some of our fellow “professional” drivers do, and see if it comes up with a different score.

Just had a look at an what an insurance company black box monitors, and what this iPhone app monitors, and it doesn’t look like there is any difference.
Both use GPS and a g-force accelerometer to analyse 4 different elements of your driving: Your speed Your cornering ferocity (what we call “following the landscape”) Deceleration and braking (“anticipating traffic”) Where and When (Driving at night is statistically more dangerous)
Why knock something which could potentionaly save people money on insurance, I have used the AA in the past, and were competitive, I don’t need a black box in my car or iPhone app to tell me if I’m a good driver, I already know I am!

I have always thought these stat’s a bit sus. After all, if nearly all your journeys start and finish at home, then isn’t it likely that your car will spend more time within 5 miles than anywhere else?
