Are these set to 50 for HGVs?
There are so many that sit on the limiter I’m guessing it’s either not set up for trucks or set very high
Travelled it yesterday both ways only three trucks came by sat @ 50 ,so wouldn’t risk flat out
i’m told they set at 53 but i wouldnt like too try it out
Interesting question, all I seem to be able to find out on the net regarding av speed cameras is the usual 10% + 2 - 5 mph leeway which would make 56 a speed unlikely to attract a ticket. However, do they, and will they always allow a +10% on an average speed camera? I can understand why 10% is allowed on the tradition speed camera as there can always be an argument over accuracy, but on an average speed taken over several miles or more, there will be no question over the accuracy, if it says you were doing 52.3 then you would have been doing 52.3.
It would be very interesting to find the lowest speed a ticket was issued for in an average 50mph zone - may be someone with more time than me could fire off a FOI request.
I go through each way about 3 times a week sat at 55 and have never had any bother since they put the cameras up

I’d like to believe you…
Well a lot of trucks must know something because many were flat out through the gatsos and are still flat out through the average ones now.

I go up and down it regularly, normally sit at 82k on the tacho, sometimes 85 if i’m in a hurry , there’s plenty buzz by on the limiter, but my balls aren’t big enough to give it a shot
Many cars seem to sit at 50-55 mph tho ■■
I’ve been up loads of time when the cameras first went up, I sat at 85k all the way from Dunblane to 'Ness, I over took lots of trucks, and lots of trucks over took me too…
Lots of guys I know sit flat out and have heard nothing, I’d be worried about overspeeding if the cameras are set at 56
I have sat on the limiter since the cameras went up never heard anything.I sit at 56mph and i still get overtaken by other trucks. When im on the single parts of the A9 i sit at 52mph and never heard anything. Was told the cameras in the new 40mph section after newtonmore are set at 40mph for the roadworks.
I’m a good boy and sit at 50 mph all the way to Inverness - including the dual carriage way section so all the heroes can fly past.

I wont lose any sleep over it if you dont…
North of Perth the average speed cameras are only on the single carriageway sections, so there is no enforcement on the dual carriageways unless there is a van parked in a layby.
Not all the cameras are active all the time, so don’t assume because you didn’t get a ticket last time you did 56 that it will be okay next time. And I’m sure some of the cameras are permanent dummies.
I can’t imagine they ever turn these cameras off and they will record all vehicles all of the time, and it would not surprise me in the least if they have a record of the speed of every single vehicle through every single section since the scheme started - I’m sure if they searched your reg they could tell you how many times you have been through a section and your av speed on each occasion. If they wanted to compare average speeds of Scania R500s to Scania R730s in May. I am sure they could come up with the details.
This data is so simple to keep and analyse; some back of the ■■■ packet calculations, 12,000 vehicles per day travelling through 50 sections, 7 pieces of data per vehicle per section. easily less than 10gb of memory needed per day for the whole of the A9, your mobile phone could well have bigger storage.
Lad at our place got a ticket for doing 51mph on the A68
3 points and £100 quid fine.

which side of the border though ? speed limit drops 10mph as you cross carter bar (heading north)

So no real relevance to the subject of this thread. But 11mph over the limit, end of story!!

It might not be the same A-road but its still in Scotland where its 40mph on A-roads so it gives an idea of what punishments can be expected if you do speed [SMILING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]
Presumably we will at some point follow the rest of the UK and raise the speed limit. It is an utter nonsense 40mph on a trunk road (which the A68 is, I feel sorry for your mate getting that ticket) However if it was up to me I would restrict the increase to Trunk roads and possibly ‘A’ roads, but unlike England I would keep the 40mph for ‘B’ and unclassified roads. and I would tear the licences up of the morons I see driving flat out on B roads.
