A75

ajt:
If you sit at 40mph on the A75 your a danger not only to yourself but to other road users. Nothings going to happen sitting at 50 or a tad under. Common bloody sense. :unamused:

If your too scared to go 1 mph over then get your backside over into a layby rather than building up queues like this:

I must be missing something here. How does doing 50mph or more as opposed to 40mph make that line of traffic dissapear?

^^^ Eh well pretty obvious really. Its the lead vehicle thats going slower than everyone else hence a build up of traffic.

Put it this way, the 15 miles prior to joining that queue were congestion free. We didnt all peel off the M74 in convoy to get like that

See, if you where doing 40mph on it then they’d of all gone when you drove along there. I can demonstrate this to be true too !
When i do a ton on the motorway in my car i always end up having to brake and slow down for others in front of me. When i’m in my truck which is limited to 50mph this never happens. How come?

LOL

Hindsight is a wonderful thing

The slower you go the quicker people will catch up on you, its like a domino effect, works in teh same principle as rubber neckers on the motorway who love to have a gander at the carriageway opposite and slow it right down to cure there nosyness but dont realise whilst there braking its slowing all the traffic down behind them also and making up QUEUES…

Cop cars on this road is getting harder to keep up with, few new cars within last couple of months.

Didn’t think the local constabulary was that bad until i was involved in the mcrae tribute, a convoy of subaru’s travelling from lanark to prodrive banbury. the only “safety van” was on the first flyover inside the D&G border.

My folks did the prodrive tribute run, they have a 53 plate sti in blue wae gold…you get the picture!!!

40mph is the legal limit on the single…50mph on the dual carriageway…so thats what yer do…its the law for a reason…all this bollox about cops letting yer off at 55…youve bin watching too much smokey and the bandit son…these laws were put in place for safety and fuel economy reasons.i aint pulling over for anyone…if youve caught up youve been going too fast…i see no chequered flag so its not a race

i’ll give you a wave when i see you in a field.
it’s only a matter of time before you [zb] the wrong bloke off.

am paid by the hour dont worry me i’ll easy run behind ya but dont be prat an the d/c n whack it to the limiter so nobody can get past as thats when people start getting angry n well as phil says you might get the wrong angry one n next thing ya know ya might be offroading, i wouldnt do it but there be a few who would i suspect

i aint pulling over for anyone…

How would you, and the huge queue behind you, feel if you had to sit behind a 25 mph tractor for miles on end as it went passed many safe stopping places ?

I commend those that do not go above the legal limit but road safety comes first so if there is a huge queue behind then the reasonable thing to do for safety is to pull out the way for 30 seconds.

I know the queue is not the FAULT of those keeping to the limits but those that set such stupid limits on roads where LGVs could safely go quicker and the driver may also have that view but if the safety of other road users is being compromised due to frustration then the good driver takes safe, legal measures to rectify it.

we arnt talking about sitting behind tractors at 25mph…what people reckon is its ok to speed because then we wont be in a convoy…but they are every day…if yer at 52 some tune behindwants to do 53 or 54…so do the legal limits and be ok…you cant catch up to someone doing 40 if you are doing 40 and they are 2 minutes ahead of you…any accident the cops look at yer tacho see your speeding and thats the contributing factor…if yer doing the legal you will have a leg to stand on …i dont care much for the man that tries to put me in a field as it wont happen…why the rush anyway…cant yer see what yers are doing to the industry…

voso checking last week dumfries byepass 9am had pulled a scania belonging 2 mc burney seem 2 be giving it a good lookover looked like checking dashboard +radiator cover up

ahh a topic close to my heart!
well for close on 10yrs i lived next to the 75 just along frae the the photos \at theblind corner just up from the crossroads at mouswaldbanks
The number of accidents were tremendous ,trucks flying down the hill round the corner ////////////////////traffic stopped for vehicle turning right … not a pretty sight
eg …kelly flowers artic low flying couldnt stop pushed car up side rd under sidebars ,car on fire 2 guys screaming coudnt get out …
foreign driver took of running ,stoppedup rd by one of mc bs dragged back down to police.
this happened feb 08 ,
had loads of vehicles in my garden telephone pole replaced 3 times in 6mnths one yr.,across in field.
anyone remember the irish artic that ran into the 2 artics stopped at boghead farm at traffic lights late night and totally disintegrated(flowers on post oppdsite racks rdend) i remember being told his av speed from ferry to dead was 70
the speed onthe road is 40 for a reason …it goes through a farming area with lots o side rds
but of course the locals going about their daily business should get out of the way and doff their caps to the super truckers flying past.

ah the 75 com’on its some crack boys when your late for a boat and you after coming up from dover that morning and the eyes hanging clean outta your head when you hit thaqt road the tired ness just leaves you instantly

Years ago I got pulled in by the local police around Annan, we used to run one load at the end of the day from the Peat Moss near Annan. Copper said he had followed me since Gretna and I had ample opportunities to pull in and let the traffic through…
My response was “I saw you following me so I made sure I stuck to 40, whats the problem?”

Apparently its courteous to pull over and let through any traffic when you’re a slow moving vehicle, I pointed out that it was the law making me a “slow vehicle” and I could quite easily sit at 56. Plus the several other wagons following me could only do 40 too, for one thing the laybys aren’t big enough for fit us all in especially when there’s one caravan parked in the middle. Surely me pulling in wouldn’t make any difference as the wagons behind me would still be doing 40. I was let off with a telling off…

Coppers need educating before giving me a lecture…

Ironically, the one at the farm where the truck ran into a line of traffic and burst into flames, the traffic lights were there due to a lorry running into the field the previous day!

im in the castle douglas/gatehouse area at 3 am going 2 n/stewart delivering morning rolls i meet the 2ish ferry lorries coming towards me nose 2 tail especialy on a pishing wet night or foggy with poor visability not for the faint hearted

Travel the M6-Dumfries stretch normally 2-3 times a week on my way to Sanquhar. So if any of you see a Seafields 11 plate MAN with Mark nameplate in the windscreen give us a wave, or a flash, but ffs don`t make it a big flash, the poor bugger behind me will ■■■ themselves as I stand on the brakes.

yup thats righ AJT ,they were building up the verge and that magnum couldnt stop and ran into the field ,he ■■■■ near drove er back out before bogging down./so as you said they put lights up cause the verge was in a worse state. than when they started an the boy hit the stationary q at full bore.his trailor was 3/4 way through the last one in the Q.
