Hullo Jacko,
Some good pictures mate, especially the one of Graham Gardham, do you know what he’s doing now ? I used to know him very well in the very early seventies when he was with John Bogg in Hull.
Cheers, Archie.

The fashions make them look like school teachers

my dad jack ellener worked for a one for many years . he started at jack lane hunslet, they moved to geldard road in the late sixties i think . the site was called 4 acres . i remember trailer mating in the school holidays . drivers like burt diamond, joe spieght, and lots more .i worked in the garage when i left school the manager was reg walters and his alsatian dog.

Hi jeff, yes i do remember your dad, went to his house a few times, off tingley roundabout towards dewsbury if i remember right, without sounding rude is he still alive.reg Walters died in the late 80s in lincoln,i went to his funeral in a mini bus with a few more lads

Hi keith, my dad died in september 2001 from cancer he could never understand how a firm like a.one could just go like that.when we brought him home from the hospital so he could end his days at home we drove by the yard but i dont think he recognised it.

Hi Jeff, sorry to hear about your dad, firm was fine when jack Robinson owned it in my eyes it started to go down hill when magee bought it,but i was just a fitter,as a lot of a one drivers said he should have let Russel Hutchinson run it just like he had done for years, but like i said i was just a fitter, but loved working there

was there an a-one driver called taffy davis? I got confused thinking you maybe meant it came secondhand from taffy davies (later MFL) up in the northeast, as it bears a west yorkshire registration

settle one other thing please too denis; i was told a tale a few times of jack robinson putting a brick or sumat through a windscreen in the yard because it was filled with flags and crap again after the driver had been warned. story went that the driver told him that was a bit stupid as the firm would have to pay for a replacement - which mr robinson told him it would not, he would!

Hullo “denisglover”,
Another couple, do you ever see big Alec nowdays ? he lived just down Gelderd Road towards the City, and also Shaun, he was on those tractor cabs the last I remember. Alan Bennett, I had a fantastic New Years Night with him in the Hotel Wien one year. He was a very clever and well known man in the 4th/7th Dragoon Guards before AOne, I know this because my youngest Son was in the Regiment.
Cheers, Archie.
