Good afternoon gentlemen and Les Pullan !Went to Morrisons this morning and bought Septembers Classic and Vintage Commercials a very good read but this months edition re readers old photos there are five pictures of old Bradford wagons. On page 59 a Henry long AEC Drawbar,Page 59 a Leyland 600 six Page 60 ERF 8 Wheeler Loaded to the sky a Henry Long 4 Wheeler AEC and last of all a Fielder Maudslay 4 Wheeler, no doubt lots of memories!!! Love to see one of Stobarts drivers loading theERF 8 wheeler!!

I would think most of them have trouble getting dressed, let alone loading wool.  .Les.

They don’t have drivers at Stobarts, they have PR men who want to get there face on TV, if you gave them anything but a Volvo or Scania they would have a stroke, and AEC’s and Maudslay’s they’ve never heard of one, any way they would have anywhere to put there make-up for the cameras. :-Jack.

ramone:
Do you remember this one Les i bet you drove it a few times

Senors from Bradford had a few of these in the 1960’s, down Wakefield Road back of the Great Northern pub.

Go.od afternoon Gentle men and Les Pullen, last weekend as usual I went to the car boot sale where I was lucky enough to buy five books regarding road haulage, one book was lorries illustrated views from the north,it had a small piece about A one, there is a photo of an eight wheeler,B.W Homan of Ormesby Middlesborough who ran a fleet of AECs in orange livery who were taken over by A one. Any one who could elaborate on this? Also in British lorries of the 60s on page 86 there is a picture of an eight wheeler Scammell in Chapmans livery with the reg KJM 963. Behind the scammell is a Ford also belonging to Chapmans but the view is blocked. On page 23 there is strange picture ! a Harold Wood Bedford TK with a tanker on the back.

Hi “maxhagar”, unless I can see the picture of the Scammell I need to recognize it, cant remember the reg but the only one I remember had a Leyland engine with gate change Gbox, it had the fiberglass cab but I thought it was an artic, which originally pulled a tanker, but there may be someone out there who will put me right. Regards :-Jack.

Hi to both of you. Well remember a Scammell Chapman had. If indeed the one pictured is the one. It was an eight wheeler with the gate shift, as you say Jack. It was on night truck to London Depot for a couple of weeks. We had to have it taken off though. One of the wharfs we used regularly had a steep camber on the road at the entrance. If you couldn’t get in without stopping you got stuck hung up on the non driven rear axle. Had to then get a forklift to help push the motor in. Like you. Jack would love to see the Pictures. Dave…

Hello “ddrbsn” I still cant remember it, unless it was between me falling out with the management and having a couple of years away from Chapmans, but I still cant remember an 8 wheeler Scammell only an artic, but still nice to see someone using the A1 page now and again, but the only one I still remember is the artic which pulled a tank before we took it on the fleet, so may-be someone can enlighten us but pictures could solve the memory loss, remember were old git’s these days, and for some of us the memory goe’s out of the window just like the ■■■-ends did when we were driving. Kind Regards :-Jack.

There’s nothing to be embarrassed about, just ask one of the grand-kids to do it like I do, it’s easy.

Just looking around the house for any spare cash, seemingly XPO a Yank firm have bought out Norbert Dentressangle!! Wouldn’t mind getting hold of some shares. If Les Pullen returned his empties he could become a director!!!

Hi Keith, haven’t spoke to the man himself for a few months, but as far as I can tell he’s still getting on with the book but taking into account were all getting older by the day it’s taking a while, but as far as me doing my own, “forget it”, I can only remember things when prompted by a kick in the ■■■ now and again also writing is not my thing, I might be fast of a bike but slow on pen and ink, I’ll try to contact him to see how he’s getting on with it b ut as I said he’s getting old and slower by the day. :-Jack.

Good morning Jack, have you looked at Memories ? You will see your scammell eight wheeler.

Hiya,
Snowman, I worked along Jack lane for a spell in the very early 70s, they were
Bayfords, still going but only on fuels, in those days ran tippers as well I was on
permanent nights running power station to power station with “polished water”
occasionally nipping out East for a load of “cherry” for the local lads to shunt.
thanks harry, long retired.

Well it looks like this page has gone cold again, not many taking interest any more, but every now and again some-one looks in and opens it up again which is nice to see.
Well I’m off to the US in 2 weeks time for another month, so it would be great to see some news on here from 5,000 miles away, just to keep in toutch with what’s going on, any time will do except for the 13th 14th 15th November when I’ll be in Valdosta with the world championship drag racing team from Clearwater Florida, it will be very, very, warm, very very noisy, and very very exiting recharging my batteries for 2016, ready for the UK season to start, I’ll be seeing Billy Parky and Dave Smith on Tuesday 2 days from now at Elvington for the last high speed event this year in the UK, and “just to rub it in” I’ll be in warmer climates 7 days latter in Jacksonville where the last time it snowed was about 30 years ago, so yes it will be warm but only for 4 weeks this time, Dave & Billy have been going to Elvington for the past couple of years and we have a great time together, so I’ll be looking for anything on this page just to keep the interest going.
See you all next year and hope to have another re-union next year about August to October. :- Jack
