If your boss asked would you take the 80% stay at home wage
If you could afford to lose that 20% knowing that you could make it back when every thing blows over

The company I work for will never offer that, they’ll stick to their usual line which is ‘you go sick you get sick pay that’s it’
They’d never stomach paying drivers to sit at home no matter what the danger is.

Even though the government are paying the bill
What a bunch of caber tossers

I’d take it.
Yes I would.
But its also likely that some people will have their hours/days cut so what happens with them? They’re not stood being laid up, they’re on short time working, do they count?

They won’t borrow money from the government, it’s still a family owned business with plenty of cash and assets and a pretty poor attitude towards driver loyalty.
The management will look after themselves as usual and leave the drivers to just carry on until they fall sick, their public face doesn’t match my twenty years of experience with them I can assure you.

I’d rather take laid up option so coworkers with family’s and higher outgoings can feed and keep roof over their heads
But my phone will always be on and bag packed ready if boss calls me up to go back
If this happened last year I would of lost my house and gone bankrupt

To be honest I’d take 50% if it meant the company stayed in business and there was a job when all this is over, because i hate to say it but there are gonna be alot that disappear over the next couple of weeks/months and mine aint the best/worst but I’m happy here and it will do me til i semi-retire in about 4 years time [emoji1696][emoji1696]

I understand what your saying but it only applies if the company says it can’t afford to pay its staff and needs a grant to retain them, the company I work for can easily afford to pay its staff 80% for a couple of weeks but It never will, goes against everything they’ve ever said and done.
I’d already discussed with our other driver about working for reduced money, we’d sort of decided that between us we’d offer to work whatever was required for a basic week and if things got bad maybe drop to 3 days money but still 5.
Whilst we don’t usually want to work for free, this is something that could finish off the whole company so we were preparing to take drastic action and earn some rather than none.
Yes the 80% is a good deal but if you are Furloughed then you can’t work at all for that employer. So if there is still an small workload to keep the company running it does present an awkward situation.
I’m not sure what happens if you are furloughed, does that only continue as long as you are not working? From the emails I keep getting it seems like the supermarket rdcs are desperate for drivers. Could you be on 80% from one firm then go and work agency on another?
I’d take it.
Plus when.you factor in you just phone your mortgages company and they have to.give you a 3 month break from payments. Prob be better off money wise and health wise.

Where I work small outfit 5 trucks.
Would make sense lay few of us off have Boris pay our wages at 80%.
As for a while now some days all i seem to do is a regular run from Manchester to stoke with return load from same place. And basically that’s it sit aroind to 4 then get sent home. As nothing else to do.
You have my 8 hours pay cost diesel truck running costs.
Can’t see how he’s making any money from the job if honest
Absolutely
20% pay reduction for a 100% workload reduction is a great deal imo.
Under the strange circumstances we now have going on a 3 or 4 day week for 3 or 4 days pay would have to be acceptable for a while.
However working for a reduced daily or hourly rate for hours worked is an absolute no, no.
The real question you should be asking yourself is, IF you had the choice to stay at home, (even without pay), to batten down the hatches and isolate yourself from contact to preserve your life… would you■■?
Because in the next few weeks you are going to have to face that decision
The 20% loss in wages is reduced when you take out the cost of travel- food etc. Would I take the cut YES sooner keep me and the Wife safe

I’ve already taken that decision. Currently on 2 weeks holiday pay and due back Wednesday of next week. Have informed management that because my wife is in the at risk group due to age and underlying health concerns I will be taking unpaid leave for the foreseeable future.
Its the end of the world as we know it. This is the end of the world as we know it.
There is no such thing as free lunch. The kids of today will have to foot this bill when they start working, 30 years from now, paying absurd taxes for just the interest on all this borrowing.
All this bond issuing by the government is at a time of very low interest rates, after the depression comes hard, I guess interest rate may shoot up to 15% or higher. If the current fiancial system given by Breton Woods survive this, which will be a miracle. Watch what the world is gonna turn into, as america retracts to rebuild. As it happend with the great new deal.
