I sometimes have to deliver seed or fertiliser to farms etc. A lot of villages do have weight limits. Sometimes you have to go through them.
I just ring the farmers for the best way in. One village in Norfolk has two roads. One with a weight limit with access, the other with a 13 ft bridge (14’5 trailer). One farm to the east and another to the west. Parish council moans all the time but our firm explains every time, why we’re there.
Not just a random wagon lost but actually delivering goods. Always CYA before delving down the wrong path. From our point of view we always ring the office so they can deal with the villagers.
The parish council can get the county council to weigh down on firms who flout simple laws. In a digital age it’s best to be on your toes for your own sake. All it takes is someone walking the dog to take a pic. Once a mistake ok, more than once, with proof, of reg or company name, it can end in tears.

I asked earlier in the thread if you knew why these restrictions are in place but you never answered. If you care to check sometime you may find it is you that is the selfish one along with a few others on here.
You say your planners give you a route (for a car) which obviously takes you through these limits and you have asked them to consider changing them for a truck.
May I suggest you get a map out and work out a suitable route for yourself? Oh no I forget that would cost you an hour a day.
Standards of the professional driver these days.
Not in the UK but I’ve done one p-up where the access is into a one-way street, from the wrong end. The access route has the normal red circle with white bar, but with a plate underneath saying except for trucks access. Nasty right angled bend only possible in a truck going the wrong way, and for all traffic to go the opposite direction would alter the whole town centre. So headlights on, low gear and smile sweetly at all those who are convinced all lorry drivers are mad.
For the doubters try to get up on Google Street
Meursault, Place D’Europe. The street going up the slope towards the town.
Another p-up nearby-ish involves going through a 7.5 limit then turning into a street prohibited to coaches and caravans. Rumbling over the cobbles barely raises an eyebrow from the locals, but tourists and out-of-towners do stare.
If you’re there to work, and earn the local businesses money, there’s no problems.

Yep robroy you are quite correct. I do go a bit over the top but it certainly irritates me when I read some of the attitudes on here.
Have some drivers no pride in their job these days?

Sorry I missed your earlier question.
The point I was making, which I suspect you would have grasped if you had read the post thoroughly, is that the employers have a duty of care to ensure that routes do not include 7.5 ton limits.
If you are happy to spend additional hours driving that you shouldn’t need to then that is your choice.
If you consider that I am being selfish by intentionally contravening a 7.5 limit then I respect your right to hold that view. …
Do I think you have never broken a 7.5 limit…No I don’t.
Do I think you don’t read carefully and think about posts before responding …yes I do.

I know what you mean, but it’s like anything else, we tend to notice the bad ones more and comment on it.
You never hear anybody saying
‘‘I followed a truck today and not once did he pull out in front of anyone without signalling, and he drove in a straight line a very efficiently for miles’’
Yet the ones who pull out and carve you up, and are all over the road, are like sore thumbs, so a discussion is started on him.

Just how far can you ‘push your luck’, when needing to go through a ‘except for access’ weight limit…■■We go through here through the day to get the Asda RDC on Earls Road, but can we still get there from the south, from junction 5 off the M9 after 6pm, instead having to go past on the M9, find a junction to turn round at and then come back down…■■?
Why not come off at junc5 and go by falkirk football ground then you dont need to go thought the weight limit will add max 5 mins to the trip.
There’s a weight limit there too along the A904…

Sorry should have said come off at junc 5 take first exit on to the A9 follow to the 1st roundabout go straight on then at 2nd roundabout go right then 3rd roundabout straight on and 4th roundabout go right on to the A904 falkirk road once on falkirk road next roundabout its straight on to earls road and asda is on your left.

What, you mean exactly like I said?
Aye the same he put up 2 maps but for the other end of earls road
I still don’t understand the “up to the next junction and come back down” comment off of the OP though

Or me if they did its a long way to go just to turn round but they would see that grotty bp garage on the M876.

Listen fella I completely grasped your point and although you have still not answered my original question I will tell you what I think.
You say employers have a duty of care not to include these limits. Possibly true I have not checked.
Now to me, YOU are the one driving the truck which is not allowed in these weight limits so YOU should take responsibility as a professional driver to avoid them where ever possible.
Your poor excuse is like a lot of things these days. Let’s put the blame on someone else although I am the one in the wrong.
I suggest if you do not already know that you find out how events can go totally pear shaped because of drivers using these roads when not allowed
Good Night.
PATHETIC REALLY.

In some cases the local chief constable has given an exemption for those doing LGV training and tests inside 7.5 limitsThanks Rog for the confirmation. I would imagine the exemption is given as these vehicles do not carry the weight of a normal loaded LGV.
I can only comment on my experiences. When I did my tests, the rigid was loaded with 5 ton of water and the artic had 10 ton. IIRC these are stipulated by the rules. Would be interesting to know why the top plod allows learners to go through weight limits.
To be honest, if your learning to drive a truck class 2 or class 1, it isn’t in my opinion a great thing to tell the students it is ok to drive through a 7.5ton restriction sign. What does that say to a new driver, perhaps not stop at stop signs or don’ bother giving way at a give way sign. I find it ridiculous.

The only reason I can think of is that it would be to allow the Test route to take in the right variety of roads in the local area.
When I was learning, my instructor would occasionally try to direct us down a 7.5t or under a too-low bridge specifically to make sure that we were paying attention to the road and not simply blindly following instructions.

I took a mate out a few years ago in my truck, he had passed his test a few years previous but had not used his licence much…he also had zero experience with high trailers, so it was a kind of refresher session.
I would make a point of going under a bridge that I knew we could get under, he just drove under it ,.I said ‘‘What was the height of that bridge you went under’’ the point I made suddenly hit him, and I gave him some verbal and called him a ■■■■.
He always said to me later when he got a job, that every time he came towards a bridge he remembered that occasion, so it does work…well he never hit a bridge anyway.
Not sure on this but if you drove or turned into a 7.5 ton restricted road on your test, surely that would be a major and immediate fail? so why would you drive through them on lessons. Seems a bit cockeyed to me.
