Captain Caveman 76:
Took my test from Beverly, the route took me through Cottingham which is riddled with weight limits. I was told that passing one would be an instant fail.
Who did you take it with Cavey? Same here btw, cottingham and South street in particular is bad.
Gordy81:
What other option do you have in a strange place you aint been before and following what you think is a main route… only to turn a corner with a wue of 20 cars behind you only to see a 7.5 ton limit in an artic and think… [zb]!!!
Not being funny but it’s a road sign.
If you cannot observe road signs you should not be driving.
Would you turn into a No Entry or a One Way street■■?
OMG what is wrong with drivers these days■■?
‘‘Not being funny’’ but…
Maybe he does not have your clairvoyance talent Doc D.
He just said ‘In a strange place he aint been before’’ and following ‘‘What he thinks’’ is a main route.
He obviously also has not got your other quality of infallibility as it looks like he made a genuine mistake (some of us do you know from time to time ) as he discovered a queue of cars behind him with nowhere or way to turn back around from the wt. limit…which he inadvertantly came up against.
As usual you pounce on any trivial thing to further your one man internet based campaign to make it known (in your opinion only) that all drivers today are basically incompetent idiots, with the exception of maybe (surprise surprise) …yourself.
Give it a rest man, we all know standards have dropped, I have driven a similar time to yourself 30+, but even I accept that the idiots are still thankfully in the minority, despite what you incessantlly bang on about, and that thete are still a lot of good competent drivers out there, young and old.
So ffs dismount and shove your high horse back in it’s high horse box.

What about when you miss your turning and cant turn around? There are several legitimate reasons to enter a weight restriction without needing access to a premises in that restriction.
For example I did a drop a year or so ago which was right through the weight restriction but on the wrong side of a low bridge. If I was to get in there I had no choice but to go all the way through.
As for the One Way Street, yes I regularly turn into them, but never from the wrong end! #Pedant.
I do between 6 and 12 drops a day and drive between 200 and 250 miles mostly
A and B roads with a good proportion of rural lanes.
The route is actually worked out by a computer programme which assumes that I drive a car and not a truck and so I am routed to, for example, drive 3 miles whereas the reality is that to avoid a 7.5 limit I would have to drive 30 miles ( no exaggeration )
I have told my employer, in writing,to change the software so that the routes reflect an hgv…surprise surprise they reply ‘Good idea’ and do nothing about it.
So if I am going to save an hour a day by driving through a 7.5 limit then that’s what I’ll do.
If trading standards prosecute me and my employer then we can all have a day out in court and argue about how much money my employer has saved and what sort of fine would be appropriate…which I suspect will be nothing for me an and several grand for my employer.
Drivers all too often think they should be held accountable for something and employers are more than happy to let them carry on thinking it.

Of course I wouldn’t go down a one way street…but there are a lot of villages where the parish council, who are made up of local residents, have requested 7.5 ton restrictions purely because they don’t like hgvs in their streets and lanes because it prevents them from being able to park on the road and worrying that they will have to replace a wing mirror.
Road widths have stayed the same size and so have hgv widths…but cars have become considerably larger. 30 or 40’years ago you would not have seen a young mother driving a Range Rover around and parking it in a narrow village street whereas now it’s the fashion.
The selfishness of drivers today is such that they consider that hgv and tractors do not have the right to be there …hence the 7.5 restriction.
Have you ever seen a One Way Street sign that say ‘except for access’…No you haven’t !!!
First of all 7.5 weight restrictions have been around for years and your theory is not quite correct. However for the ones jumping down my throat about LGV learners if you care to check that was the case certainly in the 80’s but of course it may have changed now.

Keep up, we are now in 2017 quite a few things have changed!

Wellwyn, back in 2014. Yeah, I know. The inks barely dry on my licence!

There’s a test route out of the Botley test centre (Southampton area) that does go through a 7.5t limit, you’re supposed to point out the restriction before making the turn.

Thanks Vid for pointing that out. Maybe then it has not changed but it does go to prove some people open their mouth and talk utter bo**ocks.

Sorry if it upsets you but really some of the pathetic excuses etc are just ridiculous.
Yes we all make mistakes and could miss a sign but as a professional you must admit to not see a road sign is pretty poor.
I wish I believed you that the idiots are still in the minority. I am not on any high horse just stating my opinion by the way.
Ok forgetting the “7.5t limit and Learners” thing because no one gives a [zb] here in the “already passed the bloody test assumedly forum” (lets face it calling it the “professional drivers forum” is either satire, sarcasm or grossly misrepresentative of the truth )
Why would you need to “go past on the M9, find a junction to turn round at and then come back down…■■?”
Come off at J5 first exit off the R/About (A9), next Island 2nd exit (A9), next Island 2nd exit (still A9), straight over next Island (A9), Then third exit off the next Island (A904) and then you’re practically pointing at Asda…
I think that alternative would probably only add on another 5 mins (assuming traffic is light) and maybe a mile and a half extra over the day route and would certainly be quicker and shorter than continuing past J5 on the M9 to turn around and come back down, the only viable option of which I can see would be to come off the M9 onto the M876 and do the double back at J3 which would take nearly 15 mins (with no traffic) and add an additional ten miles!

Irritates rather than upsets mate, I just notice that all your posts are in the negative towards your fellow drivers.
As I say, I agree that there are more clowns impersonating truckers today than there ever was, but the difference between me and you is I give credit to the drivers that are better, all I hear from you is negativity and the painting of a very grim picture.
