7.5 tonne sleeper cab

Would appreciate some advice re 7.5 tonne fridge boxes. Must have sleeper cabs as they will be away for 12 days at a time. Must be reliable, economical, have enough fuel to do 1000k and have a good payload.

What type of payload are you looking at/for■■?
what type of goods will you carry pure Food
or also chemicals as a load,
Will it have a moveable wall so you can
carry different goods ?
why not get a vehicle that is just short of the
12tn weight limit this will allow you
perhaps a better scope of load capacity and also a body
which can use the false wall system to carry various goods,
plus if you are going abroad save you money
in some of European road charges as well,

But that would bring the vehicle within the driving bans Pete but the 7.5t option won’t. That could be an overriding factor here rather than payload etc.

With a Mercedes Atego, you will be probably looking at about 2,200kg payload, add to that a 300kg of fuel and enough gear for a driver to spend 12 nights away and you maybe able to carry a couple of europallets or an IBC

A DAF 45 might give you about 2,500kg with an empty tank

i would think with a sleeper cab and a fridge body ur gonna struggle for much more than a 1tonne payload

but havin said that if there gonna be out for more thaN a week at a time give me a shout would be willing to travell for the right money

Hi britpete
It’s parcels up to 20k out and in cooked meats and cheese in. Round trip is UK-Romania-UK. Initially 2 per week 1st to Bucharest 2nd to North East Romania Will build up to 4 per week.Reason to use 7.5t is speed however will consider going to 10+ tonnes for extra payload with double compartment

7.5tonners now no faster than other lgvs unless ur plannin on usin pre 2001 rafts

Looking at new motors euro 5 top spec due to distance and reliability.
Also got to look after the drivers as the truck will be their home.

Seimans digitachos prefered

romania…lol just get a truck with brilliant suspension because the roads are whack over there and watch out for these

mmm, Salami.

gogzy i know about romanian roads !!! nearly took the front axle off a vehicle when the road dropped 18 " without warning they were rebuilding the road and hadn’t bothered to put signs up and it was pitch black :astonished:

Payload is not going to be generous.

I’ve just got a quote on my desk at the moment for a 4.25m single compartment body for 7.5tonner and including the fridge unit its 1475kg, add to this approx 3500kg for a sleeper chassis and 350kg for fuel, driver and gear and a payload of around 2200kg is realistic.

If I can help you any further pm me.

remeber and price for an additional fuel tank
as the standard one i had on the last 7.5tonner i drove didnt last a full 10 hr driving day was usually good for around 7.5hrs unless i was particularly heavy

[it held around 130l]

You might as well go for the vehicle that comes in at 11.90tn
as you would have a better payload and if its Fridge work with
Food products Chilled not frozen you have no Driving ban,
Make sure that it is only 4.00 high When you order it
the euro-5 motor is going to help with Maut;
as AUSTRIAN do charge various rates
READ
THE Maut cost between €0.158cent- for TWO(2) AXLES;
€0.2212-Three(3) AXLES; €0:3318 for FOUR or MORE AXLES;
This will change next year 2010, so yes EURO-5 is the way to go
plus the older vehicles will end up getting banned or the maut
made so high that it is uneconomical to use , and this will if one
looks at it logicically the way all country are going to go
One thing you should really think about is how you will secure
your loads, WHY firstly DAMAGED goods cost money
next Fines and points for in-secured loads hit the Profits
and more Importantly your transport schedule,
TWO other points are GET the vehicles
DIESEL-filter positioned so that the driver can
change it on his own with out Having to KIP
the CABIN ,this will save time and trouble
in the winter time or when the filter is blocked
due to dirty fuel, (still does happen)
Also get a water night heater fitted they are
excellent and well worth the extra cost,.,

Thanks for the advice. All gratefully received
Re filter I didn’t know it could be repositioned. I was going to spec separate air con as more comfortable for the driver.
also separate red fuel tank for the fridge

Re load restraint I was considering bars are better than straps every other pallet

We used to use high roof Merc Atego’s down to Romania, they were reliable enough and comfortable enough for 2 weeks away.

I wish you luck with this, but are you sure you’ve got enough knowledge and experience to cope ? you have been asking a lot of basic questions here !

air conditioning comes normal now as standard
by most truck builders, and as for the fridge tank
it will be a separate tank any way,
you will need to think about how the body is built
as if you are using the false wall,s I had thought
it would make sense to have a side door at the front perhaps
but one of the fridge experts would be better to answer this question

My thoughts are that if you were sure that much of the work then
a 12tn is the way to go, as other wise after buying a 7.5tn and then
having to get another wagon due to the increase in work is a false
saving of money, plus you are more flexible as to the loads.
how ever it is your choice , as to what you do,
