7.5 tonne sleeper cab

gogzy i know about romanian roads !!! nearly took the front axle off a vehicle when the road dropped 18 " without warning they were rebuilding the road and hadn’t bothered to put signs up and it was pitch black :astonished:

we travelled from the bulgarian border all the way through to the hungarian border, we were glad to get out of that place, crap roads, about 30 miles of motorway in the whole country and roads like railway lines…you could let go the wheel and it would follow the grooves int he road.

That was Belgium :stuck_out_tongue:

If you are thinking of going for the Merc Atego, dont spec it with the 240 engine, although it pulls like a train, mine tares in at 5.3t with a lightweight flatbed body on it :open_mouth: .

Just a thought, if you are thinking of an independant powered fridge as opposed to direct driven, probably a good idea considering where you are going, it will increase tare by another 100kg or so and cost, but will allow you to spec aircon.

I see that high roof cabs have been mentioned, not unreasonably; don’t forget the fridge unit. You will either have what for a 7.5 tonne reefer would be a very high body, although it would still be under 4m or you spec the body with a notch in the front for the fridge. Effectivly the fridge unit sits in the load space, would this cause a problem loading?

Befrore anybody mentions using an underslung fridge, remember these are hugely expensive, are not widely manufactured and most importantly would an underslung fridge mix with Rumo potholes.

Looking at new motors euro 5 top spec due to distance and reliability.
Also got to look after the drivers as the truck will be their home.

They will be limited same as any other LGV.

I drive an 818 Atego sleeper cab hiline with box body and tailift all over Europe, payload 2300kg, Euro 4 with long range tanks with which I can get around 1600km per 280 ltrs.

PM me for more details

if you get merc take off the plastic sideguards and fit alloy bars, probably save half a tonne ( seen it done on one being fitted with a stock box)
