Would making it public on here the members who use more than one username, and/or those who keep coming back with different usernames after being embarrassed, bombed off by mods or both, not stop all the bs posted by the trolls and mischief makers on here, or at least make them think twice about it.

Can pm.s between members, be read by the mods, and if so are they…be honest.

Admin and Mods have proven beyond doubt they don’t give a crap about certain parts of rules 3 and 5…

Forum rules:
Rule 3 also covers Personal Attacks. Attack the post but not the poster.

Rule 5 No spamming, trolling,

Also read…

Forum rules:
Trolling
Will no longer be tolerated- if in the view of the admin team your posts are simply one line trolling and not posted to contribute/ add value to a discussion they will be removed… the arbitors of this will be the admin team.

Random crap
Posts that do not make any sensible contribution to the forum will simply go
the arbitors of this will be the admin team.

Seems this one’s definitely being ignored, maybe it doesn’t apply to the self labelled ‘superior’ members of this forum?

Forum rules:
Baiting other members
Posting simply to get a rise out of another/other members will simply lead to the poster no longer being able to post without their posts being scrutinised first no warnings- it will just happen. any such posts will be removed
the arbitors of this will be the admin team.

They only seem to care about schoolboy swear words and unpaid advertising.

Moderators definitely can’t (been a mod on phpBB forums) can’t remember about Admins though tbh.

Yeh exactly, I’ve noticed some of what you say myself.
You get guys like poor old doze who is harmless on the whole, but seemingly on permanent pre.mod.
In comparison you get the same one or two that chuck personal attacks around like confetti, who are free to carry on doing so.
Now I aint too fond of censorship or making the forum clinically clean,… (I am also not going to lose any sleep over childish insults chucked at me on a forum. :bulb: )…but THEY make the rules not us, so either adhere or don’t…simple.
For example, one particular member (no names) has more than once used the appalling, vile and unacceptable subject of child abuse casually to insult others (including me btw) just because he does not agree with another’s pov :open_mouth: …I mean, ffs man !, the abuse of a child…seriously??
I aint easily shocked or offended…trust me on that, but I can’t be the only one on here to consider this as crossing the line of what is acceptable and what is not, am I? …but nothing has been done about it . afaik.

I aint one for running to the mods either, bleating about it like some do :unamused: , but you brought it up and I’m sure you get my point.

I’ve said before we are all grown up (well most of us anyway  ) and we’re truck drivers not shrinking ■■■■ violets,.but as I said…THEY make the forum rules.

I can honestly say in 12yrs of being a member of this forum I’ve never once reported another member and at this point I see little benefit or point in doing so, I can’t help but wonder what’s happened to all the Moderators, none of them post any more (well barely, and of course there’s tachograph who is still a relatively new addition to the mod team thus still actually posts quite regularly). Did they just give up on the forum because it got so bad or are they just leashed and not permitted to act upon the few that are hell bent on disruption and drama? After all drama = page views and page views = revenue.

Neither have I, and if I ever consider it I’ll know it’s time to knock it on the head, as I would be somewhere between cracking up and taking it far too seriously.

As for the Mod’s alleged selectivity in moderating…
Maybe they are both giving these guys enough rope to hang themselves, and/or letting them carry on, just to illustrate to everybody else how big a prick they really are.
To get back to my o/p, I still think if multiple accounts were revealed, it would go a long way to stopping it.

Come on then ROG, you’re a mod, and you’ve entered the debate, so what’s your take on the points raised?

I leave that to the forum manager as it involves policy

Mods follow the policy made by the owners and implemented by the forum manager

Very diplomatic giving the official Company line.

It would seem.

Plus you’re not a true mod if you’re too scared to wear the colours, go orange or go home…

A very fair question robroy… There’s no forum rule stopping anybody using more than one username.

The way of it is that it’s left up to individual readers to evaluate the merit/worth of anything that anybody posts and treat it accordingly, hence the saying ‘don’t feed the troll.’

I can be very clear about this… Moderators, Site Admin and Forum Manager levels of permissions don’t even see that PMs are being sent/received, let alone see the content.

The only time that the content of a PM would become known to us is if a recipient copies and pastes it and sends it as another PM to one of the Mod/Admin Team by way of complaint about the content, Eg: spamming adverts or a threat of some kind.

Ok Cheers for that Dave, that more or less answers both my original questions.
Any comments on Reef’s points that him and me have been turning over?

A fair point Reef, but that’s your choice.

Having been a member for 12 years, I’m sure that you’re aware that the Moderators are all invited volunteers who all have their own lives and work just like anybody else.

I’m also sure that you’re aware that people’s lives/circumstances can change, sometimes quite suddenly which could then give rise to somebody quite accurately thinking that they’re not posting as much as previously.

As for Mods being “leashed,” I can honestly say that the Mod/Admin Team does their best to adopt a consistent approach in dealing with the forum rules, but this has to be tempered against the fact that they are all individuals which will inevitably (at times) lead to some minor differences because each situation is a judgement call made by a human being.

Indeed I am Dave, though if I’m honest I’m not sure what relevance that bares to this particular discussion.

Yes of course, real life always comes first over voluntary positions, but I’m not so sure that you’re aware that you need a consistent show from staff to maintain a balanced community, you, tachograph, the occasional few others (and of course ROG wearing a regular member clothes) is in no way a full staff compliment, if all the mods are otherwise engaged in their normal irl day to day lives then why not recruit more staff?

I know full well how it works (or at least how it ‘should’ work), whereas for many this is the only forum they know and frequent I am a member of many different forums, I have been a moderator on a couple of them and still currently am an active moderator on one.

I’m not saying the staff are doing a bad job I just don’t think they are doing enough of a consistent job, whether that’s through a lack of interest or a lack of active staff members it does not matter, the outcome is the same the Professional Drivers Forum is slowly but surely turning into a cross between a lawless wild west and a school playground.

Also one last thing…

dieseldave:

You guys might want to review that, this is the only forum i frequent where this is not a rule and it is now rife here, it’s gotten to the point that seasoned members don’t know whether they are dealing with a genuine question from an inexperienced person or a bored regular looking to do a little trolling, this is having a serious detrimental impact on the quality of answers provided by experienced drivers to new drivers and this in turn damages the forums credibility, I cannot think of any one good outcome of allowing this to continue.

Here’s a final thought for you…
TruckNetUKBY DRIVERS. FOR DRIVERS.

In my experience, drama = risk of getting sued. There’s no company policy of encouraging disruption and we wouldn’t ever ‘leash the mods’ (not sure I’d know how!).

That was my attempt at answering this from your good self:

I thought I’d answered relevantly.

I can’t fault your observation, but we tend to let things run their course as long as forum rules are observed, which TBF they are for the most part.

Another fair observation IMHO, but stopping multiple usernames would necessitate a change in forum rules and then there’s the enforcing of it…

I guess that both are possible, so for the very reason you gave, we might have a look at it (without making any promises) because I do take your point.

Ok, thank you JDClark and Dave for your replies, I appreciate you taking the time to consider and respond to my queries/proposals.
