Having been a member for 12 years, I’m sure that you’re aware that the Moderators are all invited volunteers who all have their own lives and work just like anybody else.
Indeed I am Dave, though if I’m honest I’m not sure what relevance that bares to this particular discussion.
dieseldave:
I’m also sure that you’re aware that people’s lives/circumstances can change, sometimes quite suddenly which could then give rise to somebody quite accurately thinking that they’re not posting as much as previously.
Yes of course, real life always comes first over voluntary positions, but I’m not so sure that you’re aware that you need a consistent show from staff to maintain a balanced community, you, tachograph, the occasional few others (and of course ROG wearing a regular member clothes) is in no way a full staff compliment, if all the mods are otherwise engaged in their normal irl day to day lives then why not recruit more staff?
dieseldave:
As for Mods being “leashed,” I can honestly say that the Mod/Admin Team does their best to adopt a consistent approach in dealing with the forum rules, but this has to be tempered against the fact that they are all individuals which will inevitably (at times) lead to some minor differences because each situation is a judgement call made by a human being.
I know full well how it works (or at least how it ‘should’ work), whereas for many this is the only forum they know and frequent I am a member of many different forums, I have been a moderator on a couple of them and still currently am an active moderator on one.
I’m not saying the staff are doing a bad job I just don’t think they are doing enough of a consistent job, whether that’s through a lack of interest or a lack of active staff members it does not matter, the outcome is the same the Professional Drivers Forum is slowly but surely turning into a cross between a lawless wild west and a school playground.
Also one last thing…
dieseldave:
There’s no forum rule stopping anybody using more than one username.
You guys might want to review that, this is the only forum i frequent where this is not a rule and it is now rife here, it’s gotten to the point that seasoned members don’t know whether they are dealing with a genuine question from an inexperienced person or a bored regular looking to do a little trolling, this is having a serious detrimental impact on the quality of answers provided by experienced drivers to new drivers and this in turn damages the forums credibility, I cannot think of any one good outcome of allowing this to continue.
Here’s a final thought for you…
