No surprise that there’s no reasons given as to why the ‘bid to keep the yard open fell through’.While the reasons as provided ( orders dried up ) doesn’t fit the script of lack of uk capacity or skills.While the new Woolwich ferries being built in East Euro is no surprise either in that regard.
While the MOD offering the token sweetener of a military contract isn’t exactly the same thing as the US merchant marine ( Jones ) act.Or taking that a step further regarding at least 50% of UK exports and imports must be carried on UK registered,crewed and built ships.While EU rules obviously wouldn’t even allow us to impose the former in this case.So yet more Brit jobs for foreign workers.
