The Ben Woolacott 1st of the new Woolwich ferries is on its way through the Kiel canal
That’s a great pic! Wonder if they’ve checked it for “clandestines” or what ever the modern PC term is
Couldn’t the get it loaded, would pay more than running empty.
Just imagine it sets off an old magnetic mine left over from the last rematch, that’s operation sea lion scuppered.
Is it me or is it wider and they’ve made the centre 2lanes so you don’t have to reverse to get off if you’re parked right by the mast ?

I think that’s just the perspective of the picture, looks like three lanes if you look right at the front.
Is it bringing Dozy back from deepest darkest Spain or wherever he went to hide as he loved the old ones!

It’s 4 lanes 3 lots of lines you can see the forth lane at the front
Wouldn’t want to be on that flat bottomed thing on a choppy North Sea crossing lol
Looks to me like it’s got 2 vehicle decks, maybe cars on bottom deck■■?
edit: then again there are no doors lower down at the front so maybe not

99% of boats/ships are flat bottomed unless it’s some yacht/sailing ship (edit … Ben Woolacott was a young lad who worked on the ferries but drowned a few years ago)

just googled young ben. what a tragic waste of a young life
Better it be named after him than some self serving big wig from the old GLC like the other three were. Dame Vera Lynn is the name of the second ferry coming.

For sure mate, I grew up under the GLC. ILEA school meals…
Bit sad really that we can’t even build something like this in the UK any more…

I imagine it will be towed from Cuxhaven by tug.

+1
but thats your british union operated british workmans standard of workmanship to blame for that, hence the end of most of british industry years ago.
even the Q E 2 got refitted in germany because nobody in britain could give a guaranteed price or timescale quote to do the job.
