zoom meeting

has anyone done a cpc course or somthing else on zoom?? do i need a username etc to join in with my cpc courses on monday

Have you had invite via e mail?.

I’ve just done 2 days of CPC via Zoom. You need to download and set up Zoom on whichever device you want to use. The course provider will send you an email giving you the info you need. When the time comes, open the Zoom app, click join meeting, type in the meeting ID and code and the provider will admit you to the waiting room and then the meeting.

You don’t need to download zoom.
The joining details on the email will take you to the site and relevant room

As others have said just follow the emil link.
I do recommend that you put the zoom dcpc on your phone then put the TV/Laptop/Ipad behind it so you can watch a movie whilst the boring misinformative tutor is droning on :sunglasses:

I already had zoom installed, and I don’t have email on the device I use, but yes, just click on the link.
 Yes, I did feel for the experienced drivers on my course when we spent about 3h on walk around checks.

I wouldn’t. There’s still plenty going out without dog clips on, setting off without winding up legs, going out with obvious defects like tyres and lights. If merely being experienced was good enough then the bigger companies wouldn’t bring in things like the BLACK system.

I’ve done a lot of Zoom meetings over the past year or so, both participating and delivering

I wouldn’t recommend using a phone to do a Zoom DCPC, you want a decent sized screen.
I would recommend downloading Zoom onto your device and making sure your camera and microphone works.
I’d also recommend trying your own test zoom meeting between two of your own devices, again to make sure your mic and camera works - some android devices have big problems here, it messes up everyone else on the course and if the course provider can’t straighten your situation out, you might be off the course.

You’ll get an emailed invitation to the course, from there you just click on the link and the software should do the rest, doesn’t always work like that, hence my recommendations above.

As for content, I’m in full agreement with Conor: if doing a walkaround check was so straightforward, DVSA wouldn’t find a reason to penalise drivers for roadworthiness offences, and our maintenance provider wouldn’t be finding defects at PMI time when the driver reports “Nil defects” every day :unamused:

No. 1 defect found by DVSA on roadside stops?
Defective tyres, a guaranteed three points on your licence
No. 2 & No.3 defects - brakes and brake components, mandatory three points again
No. 4 defect? Steering - guess what? Mandatory three points again
No. 5, just to be different is indicators and four way flashers, no points this time.

Brakes and steering. Points?

My response was a bit tongue in cheek, just to clarify. And due to the fact that over the two days I’ve done so far, there obviously were a fair few on their phones doing other things at the same time. Only a couple of the “experienced” drivers seemed to know the answers, or be bothered to contribute them to the course provider’s questions. I found the content and delivery, very good, took loads of notes, was traumatised by the video content on tyres, so am in full agreement with you both.

.

How can I, as a driver, be responsible for brakes and brake components? I check my brake fluid level daily, that the air pressure builds up and is maintained and that the brakes stop the vehicle before setting off. That obviously doesn’t ensure that the pads are not dangerously low, that the pipes aren’t corroded, frayed, cracked or whatever happens to them.
Etc. Etc. As to brake faults.

about all you can do is listen for air leaks and as you say check the pressure builds up and the vehicle stops and in a straight line with no weird noises. if the abs light or some other warning light is on defect or at the very least take to the workshop same with any other issue your unsure about.

We are employed as drivers and not mechanics/fitters all we can be expected to do is what is reasonable.

however i am impressed that you manage to check the brake fluid on a vehicle with air brakes

There will be a cut-off point where DVSA will say you are, or are not, responsible, and the answer will be in their enforcement sanctions policy

first driving job i had the trainer used to stand in the yard checking the daily check sheets and been filled in correctly. the company used to use 7.5 tonners and vans with the same check sheet. anyone in a 7.5 tonner that had ticked off they had checked the brake fluid he would bet them 50 quid that they couldnt show him how they had checked the fluid.

I must admit when he was doing our induction and told us this i did offer to take him up on it before i thought about it.
