On a PM sent to you, hover arrow over it, and a small box appears.
Click on the 3 dots.
A flag appears, and if you click on that, you can choose how to alert the Admin.
I haven’t actually clicked on but I assume that will pass the relavant message on as described above.

Whichever way you look at it there are ways in which the PMs can be read by other than the 2 people involved. As an admin you can hardly justify any action against the writer of an alleged inappropriate PM without reading it. That would be grossly unfair to the possibly innocent writer. Otherwise, anybody could acccuse anybody else and if it was serious enough somebody could get banned unfairly, totally without any evidence.
In my case the owner herself got completely confused as to what had been said, where it had been said, and the timeline involved. If everything had been posted in the open forum all that would have been clear. Fortunately she limited her ‘punishment’ to closing a perfectly informative thread, which was a pity but not life changing.
When I was a mod on the old TN I don’t remember seeing any way that I could see PMs but then I was never asked to do so. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t possible though.
That’s saved me from some typing, thanks!!
That’s exactly the reply I got from Discourse’s tech team.
Apparently, DMs differ from PMs in that regard.

You’re quite right spardo, and it’s still the case now.
I can also tell everybody that Admins and the Forum Manager can’t see them either.
