[ZB], on the hard shoulder again...... my cardiac diary

Well a complete and utter bollox up, Tues appointment with Doctor 2 was cancelled, so I cleared it with the DVLA, Doctor 1 and Doctor 2 on Tues morning that I would go for the appointmant on Fri with Doctor 1, so turned up Fri PM and nursey wired me up, and no Doctor 1  , so nursey went to find out where he was  . Apparently he’d had a letter dated 19th July that arrived on Thurs morning (28th :unamused: )saying his services were no longer required, as another Doctor had been appointed so he cancelled my appointment, to say that my ■■■■ was boiling when I left the hospital would be an understatement. Anyway after burning some ears at Swansea about their postal system and getting with no joy  , I contacted Doctor 2’s secetary, and on Monday shes hoping to get me an appointment booked for next week, DVLA cockups allowing :unamused:

So, now Doctor 2 wants me to attend a consultation before he’ll give me the treadmill/ECG, FFS even if you tried it would be difficult to spin it out any longer

Big Joe:

Im propper feeling for you Joe…they are seriously takeing the p**s now ! after all this is sorted you want to complain to some higher authority about this ! its just not on ! you have a business and a family to support .

Hope it gets sorted asap bud

OK, passed the consultation, ECG treadmill test booked for next tues

It looks like a hiccup turned into a bureaucratic nightmare. Its the first time I have seen this thread & since it started I have had my first heart attacks ( Whit Monday ) resulting in 4 nights in hospital. For me it was lucky - I had the attacks in the comfort of my own home, I am retired now so I won’t miss the HGV or the job. I wish you luck with the treadmill. Be careful about that Barium Meal thing ,a mate of mine had it & it killed him for 5 minutes - he was allergic to the Iodine.

Right, took the test on tues but there was a spurious reading towards the end which corrected itself in the last few seconds. The doctor said it could be a red herring, and he would still send the results as the DVLA may accept them as they are, or request another type of test using chemicals instead of exercise to stimulate the heart. Sounds a bit scarey and not what I wanted to hear, was feeling a bit ■■■■■■ off for a day or two, but hey ho. Maybe a career as a transport consultant and TM name on multiple O/Licences beckons :stuck_out_tongue:
Anyway next week I’ll be back on the DVLA’s case, as they should have the results so it will be worth a daily phone call me thinks :grimacing:

I think you might still be in for a long wait. After my last treadmill test it was a month for them to put the results in to their system and another six months to get an answer out of them.
Good luck.

Have you considered contacting your MP? In all departments DVLA have improved over the years with the obvious exception of the Medical Department. I should be shocked but I’m just angry on your behalf at this bunch of arrogant ■■■■■■■■■■

As of fri afternoon, the DVLA claim my results have still not arrived from the Hospital :unamused: , they probably have but are waiting in a pile somewhere waiting to be scanned onto the computer system

God is telling you to jack it it, Big Joe. You’ve had your warning & now they are drawing pictures. You have my sympathy but with heart probs trucking isn’t the best way to spend your day. Everyone one on here is making sympathetic noises but the poor old heart taking the strain all the time needs looking after not given more punishment. I know the whole thing is a financial prob but it won’t help when you are prematurely six foot below Ground Zed?

Thanks for the advice Harry  , but according to my Doctor, Cardiac Surgeon and the DVLA Doc theres not a lot wrong with me, oh and by the way I feel ok too.
Its just that a king machine throws up a funny shaped wave on a print out now and again, and thats enough for a pen pusher at Swansea reading from a crib sheet to curtail my LGV ticket, but we’ll see what the verdict is when they finally get to look at the last test. Its certainly made me look and seriously think about other avenues of making a living, but until I’m told thats it…finitto…end of LGV driving :frowning: , then I’m aiming to go back down the road, and stressful or not its what I love doing which must count a lot towards living a healthy fulfilled life, so just wish me luck :grimacing: .

I agree - its just I recently met a guy that had been back to work for 5 weeks after a heart attack. He was in his 50’s & was doing day work on containers .To go to work every day he has to do a 60 mile round trip in his car. Anyway the bottom line is he looked worn out & over the hill for trucking, but nobody will tell him.
I was told by a HGVdoctor that all the medical test has to prove is - is the driver fit enough to avoid having an accident & if he has one is he fit enough to crawl out of it unaided. So on that basis I think your results will prove positive so good luck with your career. Speaking personally ,the boredom of UK work would finish me off PDQ.
PS. the other test that you mention is the Barium Meal. My mate took it & died for 5 minutes. He was allergic to the iodine they use. Somehow he passed the test but years later they wanted to give him another one so he refused & let his licence go.
There is life after trucking, despite the rumours.

As of this morning DVLA claim they have not received the test results from nearly two weeks ago, and have written to the Doctor to remind him :unamused: , a quick call to the Doctors secretary, and ‘‘oh yes Mr ******, they were posted first class the afternoon of the test, the DVLA should of had them by now’’. Hmmm, so who are we to believe :imp:

I would believe your Doctor. I had the same thing Doctor saying they were sent and DVLA saying they had not received them. It was a month before I got a letter from the DVLA saying mine were put in their system and I must wait for the result.
Good luck.

So, the hospital have recieved a letter from DVLA asking them what has happened over the test, as they’ve not had the results FFS :imp: , as if they’ve not been sent already, five weeks ago tommorrow they were posted :unamused:

First I’d like to say Hi & I really hope your situation has improved. Are you still taking the Beta blockers as they slow your heart rate so you’ll feel fine & I’m wondering if because you stopped taking them 2 days before the test your heartrate had had time to return to normal, unluckily for you.
I agree that you should make some sort of complaint but that in itself would be more stress. At least you are aware of just how incapable all the companies involved are at doing something from the outside seems quite an easy process if everyone could just get on & do their jobs properley.
Best wishes for the future

DVLA still not accepting they’ve recieved the results, despite the hospital saying they sent a second set of copies last week :frowning:

Big Joe:

I think it’s the DVLA’s way of making their waiting lists look shorter.
Good luck don’t give up.

Chewy:

I smell Roland too :grimacing: , anyway as of tuesday the results were on the system at Swansea :stuck_out_tongue: currently looking at a two week wait before an assesor looks at them :unamused:

So, we’re onto the next saga, and back on the DVLA-Hospital appointment/results go missing/oh there they are :exclamation: merry-go-round  . Despite the Cardiac Surgeon, Doc, everyone else and his dog giving me the all clear, the DVLA pen pushers now want me to go for a Myocardial Perfusion Scan so they can tick some more boxes FFS :unamused:
patient.co.uk/health/Myocard … n-Scan.htm
I’ve had this type of scan before after I had the original heart attack in France, give the frogs their due they went to town to make sure they found everything before they turned me loose, Angiogram, Stents, MRI scan, daily ultra sound, Myocardial Perfusion Scan, all avenues explored, done and dusted within 2 weeks. Of course in good old blighty you only get investigative treatment as and when something goes wrong, and then on… and on… it drags :unamused:
