Yusen Logistics? More like Useless Logistics

I’ve just got into the Yusen Logistics site at Wellingborough, and I’ve never known such a useless set of muppets in my whole life. With 2 wagons in front of me at the gatehouse, it’s taken over half an hour to get through the gates. . . Why it takes over 10 minutes to book a wagon in, I will never know.

When I’ve finally got in through the gates, it is then decided it’s break time. Well, I don’t begrudge any hard working individual their breaks, and would never choose to tell someone they can’t have it, but by heck, if the entire system was actually a little slicker, surely I’d have pretty much been out of the gates by the time it’s break time.

Slow people - where do RDC’s and storage facilities find them?

I suppose that’s all you get for your £7 p/h ! I guarantee the one item you would never see on my brow would be a bead of sweat.

I’ve never understood why the whole yard needs to go for break at the same time.

Well, it was over half hour to get in, 2 hours in the bay, 10 minutes to wait for security to come and seal the trailer, and then another 20 minutes to book out of the gate. That 52 pallets of cutlery for Tesco’s must have been worth a few bob for all that carry on.

Are you on hourly pay? If so then what is the problem?

Rather think outside the box:
If RDC’s took less of our time we’d be getting more stuff moved around. Ultimately,we’d benefit as
employers would make more money and we’d be better paid.

I partly blame the down time this industry suffers for the narrow margins and, consequently, the
low average wages we receive.

Probably because their breaks are dictated by management. Our drones go from 0900-0930 and 0930-1000.

Actually, no, I’m salaried, and as such I’d rather only be pulling out a 13 hour day than a 15.

I also agree that the huge amounts of down time in the industry plays a major role in profits/wages.

As Frank Carson would have said, “That’s a cracker!”, have you thought about a career in comedy?

Nah. Lack of backbone is the major factor.

It sounds fancyfull [and vaguely humerous] I know but, ultimately, down time is a huge expense. Equally,
the time our trucks are stationary overnight is as well. It would make a lot more sense if more of us were
depot-based so that units could be used 24/5-6-7.

Time for a rant. Iam an o/d. It makes me so ■■■■■■■ angry when I read some of the ■■■■ posted on this forum its no wonder my ■■■■■■■ blood presure is so high. Surely even you morons can see that if a truck is not working its not earning. Iam lucky to contract for a decent Dutch company that pays resonably well but some uk firms if you ask for a rate rise to cover costs or to pay waiting time its a case of “if you dont like it , we will get the east europeans in”. and there lies the problem . They have totally ■■■■■■ the industry. You all need to grow a pair and stand up and be counted. When waeberes, betz and all the other east european scum wipe out the british haulier and you are either working for 1000 euros a month or on the dole, maybe then you will think it wasnt so bad and I wish I done a bit more to help. selfish ■■■■■■

Type that whilst driving?

Yes and I was on mobile and reading a map while having a shave and making a cuppa and wathing a dvd.

No you wouldn’t.

The down time has little to do with it. The companies who don’t have much down time make little money. Stobart Group made a £23.2m net profit on a turnover of £500.4m in 2011.

I thought you were an owner driver. If you truly are you’d know they can’t get the Eastern Europeans in to cover anywhere near enough or to do JIT work because of the rules of Cabotage.

The problem is owner drivers taking it up the arse instead of standing firm for decent rates. If the company says they’ll get eastern europeans in to move the load, tell them to. I can guarantee that the load they have to get delivered to Tesco by a set time that day or get fined will not get moved by an eastern european instead.
