Hi folks.
Anybody know what Yuill & Dodds are like to work for?
Hi supatramp,
Dunno mate but i know they are looking for afew class 2 drivers at the minute for tipper work.
Had a driving test with them afew days ago but they could’nt take me on due to insurance reasons,so they say anyway!
I’d say its worth a shot if you dont have anything else!!
Good luck whatever you decide

if im not mistaken they where the only company that broke the Tesco Livingstone Picket Line when Eddie Stobarts drivers refused to do so.
So i think that speaks volumes - they drive round on the limiter all the time so they must have tight deadlines to keep but i may be wrong but thats my view of they company.
But a job’s a job and if i was out of work , i dont think i care too much of the morals of the company.
Im sure someone on here will be able to tell you about pay and conditions
Sure theres a story about a new motor and an interview with an old timer in T&D this month. Paid a percentage of trucks earnings so its bound to be limiter racing!
They have tidy outfits, all new or within 3 yrs old I think?
Thanks for the info so far.
How does the “percentage of the trucks earnings” work? Haven’t heard of that one before!
Well the more you do the more you earn basically. Hence why tippers n that kind of pay scheme are always motoring along at f1 pace.

I’d rather do a 20 year stretch with Ken Livingstone than work for Y&D.
They also crossed the picket lines during the Miners strike in the early 80’s.

Anybody know what Yuill & Dodds are like to work for?
I’m well aware of Yuill and Dodds activities during the 2 mentioned industrial disputes, but I was hoping for some info as per my original post!
Thanks in anticipation.
just thought id add that stobarts drivers did cross the line in livingston i was there when it started and every company i saw up there also did
Yuill & Dodds are currently looking for tipper drivers.
Yuill & Dodds pay by the load - whether you’re on their tippers or artics.
The more loads you do - the more you get paid! Simple.
If you dont have experience they may still take you on. But you better be a quick learner because very few drivers will have the time, or take the time to stop and help you!
Their trucks are in good condition and most of the time well maintained. If you like Scanias you’ll love working at Yuills cause’ they favour Scania above the rest.
Over the last 5 years they’ve wound down the artic side of things. They dont do curtainsider work anymore and only have about half a dozen tractor units left that pull their industrial/domestic waste ejector trailers up to the landfill sites.
They’re always really busy on the tippers and have long term contracts left, right and centre - including the forthcoming M74 extension.
You’ll be chasing your tail all day - but with the “paid by the load” system that’s been in place for a long time now, there’s potential to make a really good wage.
Sure, they crossed the picket lines back in 1984, and recently crossed the Tesco lines at Livingston (so did Stobarts), but during both disputes they never once forced any driver to do so! It has always been the drivers’ choice.
There are so many myths about Yuill & Dodds and how they do things on a day to day basis.
The fact is they’re very good and highly successful at what they do. It’s a family run business, that doesn’t hound their drivers.
When the drivers enter the depot in the morning they’re handed their paperwork and it’s up to them to get their heads down and get on with it.
There’s money to be made, and contrary to what people say about Yuills, it can be made within the law.
But if you dont pull your weight you wont make any money, and you’ll be out on your ear anyway.
I hope that’s sufficient information and best of luck.
dont know what their like now , but i remember in 86 going up to scotland to meet a bird, i was in a capri 3.o litre doing about 75 or so at junction 37 on m6 when four scanias of said company past me like i was asleep, and they were loaded, talk about keeping her lit, theyd have given mallard a run for her money
the only y n d drivers ive met the last 12 months were polish
kipped in the cab all week on tippers ?
still know a lot off ex miners that are on the driving now and lose the plot when they see a dodds wagon
