We used to backload out of Wolverhampton and Birchley Rolling Mills, next door to Oldbury BRS for Flathers. There was a female -ish- crane driver there with rolls of fat hanging over crane side and she used to eff and blind at any driver who was a bit slack in getting ropes off as it was always f****** snap time with her. It was said that the warehouse manager was seeing to her, well good luck to the poor sod. :open_mouth:
Wm Bradley on Surbiton Street Attercliffe had a couple of motors in there,a Scammell land crab and a Leyland Retriever, they always got Cam Gears at Resolven South Wales and another in Cornwall, can’t recall the town.
This Beaver would be in a green livery…

Can’t see that bloody crane driver…

Never loaded at oldbury chris but we took billets in from rotherham. I think u have a colour pic of flathers foden ex cement Mark. Board.just sat at Harlow can’t go in till after 10am don’t think that albion would have got here yet–had a good run down

Hi folks,
sorry to ■■■■ in…my dad also used to drive for sharpy’s from down engine lane before they moved onto the industrial estate at carlton I remember him driving a red atki borderer with a broad white band around the middle of the cab. i also seem to remember that yard being at the end of a very long straight bumpy track■■?. If i was to ask him , I could even get the reg number of his old wagon. He loved driving for sharpy, and he has always got plenty of tales form the highways to tell. Maybe some of you chaps remember him, Stuart McDermott■■? any takers■■? Do any of you have any pics…I am looking at re-creating his wagon as a model■■?

hi all does anybody remember d sharp and son from barnsley my dad used to drive for them in the 80s

Yes I remember D Sharp and Son I worked for Duncan in the mid 80’s and knew your Dad if his name was Steve, my name is Les Turton. I worked with all the Barnsley & Huddersfield lads and had one hell of a laugh. If I remember rightly your Dad left and went to Cutts at Barnsley where he had an accident at Warcop and I believe his son (perhaps you) was with him at the time. Nice to hear any other stories from the lads.
