Browns of Otley
Greenbanks of Knaresborough
TD Hartley of Boroughbridge
Hudsons of Wetherby
Dowsetts of Boroughbridge
Tony
Browns moved out the the old airfield at Tockwith and now no longer exist.
Greenbanks that takes me back - they moved to the same yard as K&J Logistics outside York and packed up - a mate was renting Ray Greenbanks house in Knaresborough til he moved on and it is now up for sale, Ray lives in Spain as far as I know.
Hartley’s retired and I think sold out to Revis’s.
Hudsons is not one i know.
Dowsetts if its the one I am thinking of down Bar Lane was taken over by one the the big engineering firms and have moved out of the yard which is now used by Reed Bordall for trailer storage.
browns used to be based in otley, they did a lot of work for TEREX (plant) with there distinctive range trucks they were hard to miss, a member of my family has a photo somewhere of one of there daf low roof 6 wheelers with a TEREX machine on the back.
any more photos of these would be great! my dad remembers them like it was yesterday!
glook export and david sommers are a couple more (although i think they were part of the same?)
thanks will88

Hudsons were a potato merchants based in Wetherby opposite that big anchor, they ran 4 flats and two artics with bulk tatie trailers and were painted blue if that rings any bells.
Dowsetts got taken over by Cementation late seventies early eighties.
Do you remember “Hoss” (Bonanza) I think he was Greenbanks son, he got his nickname through driving an old Foden with no power steering!!
Tony
2 Bellgate drivers…great stuff. Do you have any picture of your trucks whilst working there ? I met with Bernard ( Hewson, Ellerpack and a bit of Bellgate and now a bit of Neill & Brown ) a couple of weeks ago on various bits, but did ask where is Paul Oxtoby these days, any ideas ? Many thanks.
Paul Oxtoby still lives in Holme on Spalding Moor.
I worked with Brian Yeardly when he was with MAT then he set up on his own in Hull. The story goes that he had to leave Hull but unsure of the truth. I never drove for him but my ex brother in law did for quite a few years and so did his son untill they set up on their own. BY always had a good fleet and they used to haul Candy electrical gear back from Italy.

Hudson potatoe merchants, that brings back memories for me. I started there about 1965 when i was 17 working in their little garage looking after the lorries, just rigids back then. Some of them were an S type Bedford flat, a TK flat and 2 or 3 with van bodies, they got a new Albion flat with the new Ergo cab, my were we posh.
I started my driving career by driving one of the small vans delivering spuds, best stops were fish&chip shops
On the other side of the main road was an old transport cafe, can’t remember the name of the owner but it was still open even though the A1 had bypassed Wetherby, IIRC it was a wooden building.
Mr Hudson was a fair bloke to work for and we all mucked in to help where needed, i found myself on the ‘production line’ sewing up 5 and 10 pound bags a few times.

Up here in ■■■■■■■■ weve get plenty of wind , and we
ve got plenty of farms.
So,…canny ■■■■■■■■■ are now concentrating on…Wind Farms.
One is now under construction, and is situated a mile or so to the east of the M 6 , between Junctions 36 and 37.
The sections travel north on the M 6 to J 36, then are escorted along the A 65, then taking the minor roads to their destination.
This photograph was taken as it turns off the A 65 and travels through Oxenholme village earlier this week.
Cheers, cattle wagon man.
Apologies , viewers.
Oxenholme is not as bleak as that.
THIS here photograph is the turning off the A 65 at the start of our village.
The previous photograph was taken as the blade
starts its journey up the hillside ,towards the Farm
location.
Cheers, cattle wagon man.
A section of the vertical column is shown at the bottom of the long climb to the Farm
.
The MAN on the left is a 6 x 6 unit.
Dark , and dismal weather conditions prevented a better and more-colourful photograph.
Cheers, cattle wagon man.
MAN 6 x 6 . Shown on left in previous photograph.
Colletts have some expensive, and impressive kit
to transport these windfarm sections.
Their drivers are doing a very good job , - all our village lamp posts are still standing vertical and working
Cheers, cattle wagon man.
