Fantastic pics as ever Barry!

Loving the old Maggie pics!

Don’t suppose you’ve got any more of the old man’s fleet you could post up have you?

He has loved me showing him some of the old pics on here!

You must have dozen’s and dozen’s of our old fleets from over the years!

Keep up the good work!

Few early MAN’s

Barry/Gloves

Red MAN (ex Stewart Thompson from Otley judging by what remains of the livery) was on the Euroway site with Les, Driven by an Irishman, never knew his name but always happy and smiling and ‘quite fast’!

Last two are ex Jones fleet, never photographed any of the ‘Morgan’ trucks in Noble livery

Thanks Barry.

Great to see some of those old pics!

The second and third pics are the same lorry. It was Dave Moorhead’s lorry (Ken Moorhead’s brother). He bought it in the yellow livery and then painted it red. You can also see one of Dave’s old maggies behind our MAN on the top picture, when we were working on the Keighley bypass.

The Irish fella in the red MAN is Seamus Brehany. It’s not an ex Stuart Thompson truck, he bought that brand new. He now runs SBT skip hire in Yeadon. You may have seen his lorries knocking about.

Those ex Jones MAN’s were great motors. If you recalll, we bought 5 of them and put brand new Townend bodies and tyres on them all. Unfortunately, some b*****d thought they would be better in their hands and 3 of them were stolen one night, never to be seen again!! We had just minted them all up and spent fortunes on them. Dad was devastated as they were 372 MANs that were very hard to come by at the time! The insurance company offered a pittance for them too.

2 yrs later they came back again and pinched 2 more MAN’s. (Apparently they cut them up and send them abroad as the back axles, hub reductions and diffs fetch a lot of money abroad).
Fortunately for us, we had trackers fitted because of what happened to the other 3. They were found 5 hours later in a barn in Burnley and they were in the process of being cut up. The body had already been removed! Fortunately we got them both back that time!

Great to see the pics though!

Thanks again!!

Ps. Dad says you’re welcome to call in any time!

Longbones Haulage, Hull. One of the oldest. In their prime they had a large fleet of Ford Cargos and drags that transported Static caravans from the early 1980’s to the late 1990’s. Not sure if they’re still going.

I’m wondering can anyone remember or have any photos of DCB transport of Driglington? The company was run by father and son Jimmy and Dean Ball. Quite a sizeable mixed fleet sky blue cabs red chassis. In the early 90s the majority of the work was out of pound stretchers cross green. They eventually moved to grange road Batley.

its a bit of a long shot but do any of you remember a chap called billy potter ? he ran a few wagons from his garage in sowerby bridge . as i remember he had a scania 111 / 112 and an 81 , he also ran a couple for someone else one of which was a yellow trancon with “pharoe trucking” on the front , he ran them on ferrymaster .

Billy Potter moved to Bradford and did Paul Bannons work (Bannon and Ward) He had a few Scanias by that time running abroad,Adrian Bannon worked in his office. The site is a housing estate now

I worked for Billy back in the 70s when he 1st started, he had a little office in Mytholmroyd, and had one Transcon that was an ex-hire motor, painted it Potter blue, and I did the 1st Italy for him,( Bari), the yellow Transcon belonged to Mal Carter, he had a garage called Pharaoh, and that’s where the name came from, I recently went to Billy’s 70th at the Church Style in Sowerby.he’s still a rogue, but he was always alright with me, I have many happy memories working for Bill, he could be a bit challenging at times, and that’s being kind…lol… Iv’e posted some pictures that hopefully, will bring back a few memories for you Bowser.

Don’t know if anyone is interested,
I’ve just been looking through a great picture site on Flickr Jim Taylor’s “wagons of yesteryear” a collection of over 3000+ pictures all taken locally around Huddersfield area, they incl. the likes of Archibolds,Longs,Thomas Sugdens of Brighouse etc. a great way to pass some time and remember some very familiar names.I have included the link for anyone interested.

MAW is not such a common name, so I assume that the OST Bedford is from the same family, also being a tipper fits in quite well

Barry

Others may know otherwise■■?

Found an old pic (unknown source):

Loaded at Terry’s of York several times through Sissons of Sherburn in the early seventies. Always found them great to deal with - decent rates too.

Hi there jeffrey ellener JWY 34V taken in 1986 when i started at moxon transport at sherburn in elmet as a gofor.

Made my night this pic, trucknet amazes me sometimes im “fairly” sure this used to be Daves truck, would have been between 1980-84 sometime as my dad had a transcon then an used to meet up occasionally with dave at the original "star"truckstop/cafe on the old A74,really top bloke he were, dont know wether hed still have been there when you started though.

Had bought my first spread axle tandem 40’ van and had a load for Yorkshire. Rang Sissons and sure enough, had a load out of Terry’s.

This was the first time I realised that a spread axle reversed on one axle, but went forward on the other!

To get on the loading bay, I backed around the corner of the building, and soon found that I had the protection bollard neatly between the wheels!

At one point I thought I was going to have to ask for a forklift to get me out of this embarrassing situation!

I eventually managed to get away. Lesson learned.

John.

I remember the old spread axles well, on a tight reversing job your right, depending on which way , usually drivers side going backwards and nearside going forward but that was really on a tight jacknifing reverse. we had them at onward transport, carrying bottles, and we were told that they helped to keep high loads from going over, and I must admit we used to fly about everywhere and never had much problem with them. then along came tri-axles and air suspension oh and for is the godsave of them all ( TAUTLINERS YEA YEA ) or as they now call them ( curtainsiders )

Butlers from Maltby, hope this works having trouble posting pics tonight on other pages.

Hi Barry.

Some great pics of the old MAN’s here. I recognize the John Hourigan lorry. That is actually my dad’s lorry (Les Noble - it’s him driving it). He bought it off John Hourigan, and I’m assuming that pic is from around 1986 ish, as it looks like when my dad was working on the Keighley Bypass?

I remember all those other names too - not so many around any more!

Cheers
