If the car is being put to commercial use then it should have commercial insurance simples.
It cost me nigh on two thousand pounds for H&R, GIT and PL on a small Transit Connect so would a housewife drivin a beat up Mondeo want to spend that sort of money to earn peanuts with Yodel, Hermes and co ?
Raymundo,if they are not prepared to invest in their business they have no right to be there. This is all part of the race to the bottom. When I had a taxi I was competing with people who were out using their dads car,no public liability or operators licence or certificate of fitness.
In the end I gave up trying to complete with those type of shysters, the number of calls I got asking me to do jobs at less than the cost of fuel even far surpassed the decent paying jobs. The race to the bottom is not helped either by the likes of Courier Exchange and the bedroom freight forwarders, slightly off topic from the original post I know but all part of why the general haulage industry is in such a mess. Couriers should be regulated the same way as all the other aspects of transport, with heavy penalties for those who ‘do it on the side’ for pocket money without being 100% legal. In the end I admitted defeat, flogged one of the vans and went back to sea where I sit on me arse most of the day and get a decent wedge for doing … next to nowt!

One of the companies that does mum in a mondeo doesn’t require you to have all the insurances you’d expect, as for a few quid every week, they’ll provide it for you.
Someone I know is the mum in the mondeo and mentioned it, and I too was sceptical, but it mentions it on the company website.
Hermes by the way.Blue link on the page here for basic info.
We got our Poppy from the display at the Tower of London this evening, delivered by a polish lad with a white transit connect ( near new on a 14 plate) …at 8.26pm . He told me he was doing 280 deliveries today at 80p each all around our local area. Started at 8am and was nearly finished !
That is the life of a Yodel delivery man seemingly.
280 at 80p = £224 for say 13 hours less overhead costs.
Sounds good … initially, is the nearly new 14 plate van rented, lease hire, hire purchase or whatever but it wont be cheap. Is he relying on the companies insurance scam err scheme or does he have his own. Deduct the running costs, depreciation and daily fuel usage etc etc and then divide the balance by the number of hours he is doing, he would probably earn more per hour stacking shelves in Tosco !! A new Stobby in the making he is not…
Physically impossible, 21 drops per hour !!! unless it was Orys doin it as he has been noticeable by his absence lately,
My Brother in Law used to work for them and qould often get 40-50 parcels just for one tesco store. That makes his round down to 220 plus there were other bulk drops.
Although it’s a lot, it’s not impossible.
I quizzed him for a minute or so before he ran off over the road , but he definitely said 280 parcels…some must have been multi to one address . One hell of a way to keep fit !

Not impossible, when doing residential drops i have managed close to 30 in an hour but typically i’ll do 20 odd per hour but that’s only for a couple of hours not every hour all day. You are talking them being very close together and people answering the door within a few seconds or being able to leave it without signature, get a few driver releases where you can put it through the door i can have them out the back, through the door and back in the van in 30 seconds.
280 pkgs doesn’t mean 280 drops, 10 for one place, 10 for another etc.
Seeing the Amazon logistics guys literally delivering to every other house i can see them doing over 200 with ease
