Yodel delivery

I just had one delivered by Yodel too, between Midday & 9pm i was told, arrived at 12:10pm Shame the guy looked like he had just come off the immigrant boat, barely spoke English and looked like he’d borrowed his clothes from the local tramp. It may have been delivered but i wouldn’t want people looking like that delivering my parcels if my companies image was half decent.

I’ve just had a parcel delivered by Yodel…in a hot hatch Suzuki with go faster stripes. Lad driving it was maybe 20/21 years old. What’s the betting he’s got H&R, G.I.T. and P.L.I. insurances?
It’s taking the ■■■■.

Its not taking the ■■■■. Fair play to the guy I say. Plenty 20 yr olds sign on and give it “No jobs so ill stay on the dole for the rest of my life”. But he has become self employed and is earning and paying his way. Do you really think a company like Yodel is going to let someone deliver for them without all the insurances in place? I dont.
They can deliver to me in a MK2 XR3i and wearing a shellsuit for all I care. Delivery charge is for getting parcel from A to B. No stipulation it needs to be in a liveried transit by someone dressed up like a free range wally in full company logoed uniform.

^^ a few years ago, o/d’s were asked if they had the correct insurance. They said yes, it was never checked.

Slightly off topic.
Got an email to say a parcel was going to be delivered to my house Friday morning. I wasn’t going to be there so emailed them to put the parcel by the side gate. Yesterday I get an email saying parcel delivered and a photo of it sitting by my side gate!

I’m easily pleased

DPD, not Yodel.

DPD are the best, in my opinion. Text message in the morning giving you a one hour window and they stick to it, you can also track how the drivers getting on (Your drop number 25, drivers currently doing drop :sunglasses:, saves you having to sit around all day waiting.

I’ve been very impressed with DPD’s tracking service and you even get to freak the driver out by knowing his name before he knocks on your door!
The only problem with the DPD system is it takes any flexibility out of the route.

jayseabea:
I can’t imagine that happening, even at City Link.

Cant imagine much of anything happening at city link

tachograph:
Yodel don’t usually deliver parcels like that so perhaps it was a parcel that was left off the van and he delivered it on the way home or something like that.

Round here that’s about the only way Yodel deliver parcels.

That’s what the drivers hate, they can’t use their initiative or local knowledge to make their day easier or quicker. My brother had a guy sat outside his house once for nearly 20 mins as he was early for the next slot, he wasn’t allowed to deliver it before the delivery slot. He asked if he could scan it and take the label so he could go on his way but he said it would make no difference as he’d have the same problem at the next drop.
I deliver stuff to where i know people work, where i know their family members live etc. They can also take the parcels if they see me in town which is quite common.

The DPD system is no use to me as i’m at work from 7am, i don’t know if my neighbours are going to be around or not and there’s nowhere really safe to leave it so i’d have to collect it from their depot 25 miles away. Everyone else now has drop off points in town so makes it easy to collect stuff. DPD are i think the only ones that don’t offer this.

Don’t worry I too suffer similar irrational stereotyping. I ordered an Indian last night and gave the delivery driver a big tip (well £1 to be excact) as he had a beard and I was worried he would perform a inconcievable attroscity on my house. Although as the lamb korma appeared to be re-heated from frozen and was crap that boat may have already sailed.

I had a parcel delivered t’other day via Yodel … woman was driving just ordinary car … think it was Nissan of some sort.
Is Yodel the lot that took over what used to do the catalogue home shopping deliveries ( White Arrow as was - showing my age ) … 'cos didn’t they use to use “local mums” to do the deliveries … after dropping kids off at School

Think it was and we have had many a delivery made by private car so quite common I believe. As far as insurances go i don’t really care as I would reject it anyway if damaged and claim from the sender themselves or the payment provider or the multiude of other options I have when making an online purchase.

Really common in my neck of the woods aswel alot of women in cars delivering for yodel.

Fair play to the people grafting earning a few bob, but in my opinion outsourcing all your deliveries to any willing tom, ■■■■ or henrietta is likely a main reason as to why many people find Yodel so bloody useless. Some will be good, but I’d wager an awful lot more struggle with the workload. A lot of the complaints I read seem to regard parcels being ‘out for delivery’ but never showing up.

Don’t get me wrong Yodel as a company are in general awful but their couriers do seem to go the extra mile, I have had useless tracking info then the driver turn up in their own car at stupid o’clock and all is forgiven.

That said I have found DPD with their 1 hour delivery window and good communication to be great.

As with all industries its communication thats the key, the customer will be less inclined to moan if they are informed ‘Mr ■■■■-Up’ has got his best shoes on and theres been a problem.

As a species we just love to whinge but theres less to whinge about when we know what the problem is - misssort, driver lost / broken down, not despatched on time, sender couldn’t give a toss etc

DPD are the best parcel company about, give you a text, 2 hour window, they give you a option to change to whatever day you want, they have a dedicated twitter team who help you with the slightest problem. They even give you the drivers first name! Lot of companies could learn a lot from them, don’t know how they do it maybe they have invested in good tech but it certainly stands them out from the crowd. Every other firm they give you a 12 hour window 7am-7pm

The Royal Mail don’t even give you a window they don’t even bring the bleeding parcel they just bring a collect card!

I did have a DPD driver who had 2 parcels for me but apparently he could only deliver 1 and the 2nd one later due to computer schedules, course he ripped the bar code off the 2nd package and let me have both to save the hassle of coming back but this may explain why they are one / if not the best.

Some don’t care whether insured or not as long as I get my parcel is imo the wrong attitude to take. Not having the correct insurance in place while delivering for Yodel and their ilk should be jumped on by the authorities hard, as having not the correct insurance is the same as having no insurance at all in the event of a claim or just for use on the road. And before anyone says business insurance is OK, It’s not !

If the car is being put to commercial use then it should have commercial insurance simples.

That’s what I love about DPD, the text with a time slot…
My girlfriend had a few parcels delivered the other day and the text said it’ll be delivered between 07:54 and 08:54, at exactly 07:57 the driver was at the door
Royal Mail here are good too, our postman if nobody is in will leave any parcels in the shed for us, he even came round to the back garden once because he knew we were in :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

I don’t care what he was driving either as long as we’re all playing on a legal, financial, level playing field.

:grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: Sure !!
