So as if to prove that my finger is on the pulse with regards to trucking in Canada my beautiful wife casually informed me today that Yanke have been bought out by Celadon and are shutting down the Saskatoon operation , so does anyone have more info ? Seems qualified Yanke drivers will be transferring within the next 60 days , hope all goes well for them .
Heard a long time ago that the company had some issues , O/O’s abandoning ship etc .
I’d been commenting for some time that I’d been seeing far fewer Yanke trucks over the past year. I used to see them all the time, all over the place but in the past few months I’ve only seen one or two. Celadon seem to be expanding in to Canada in a big way, I’m led to believe that they’ve bought out Hyndman in Ontario as well?
Poor guy’s Celadon have a bad reputation amongst US drivers, good luck getting to see your families guy’s.
I had wondered why I hadn’t seen any Yanke motors around lately.

The saving grace for Canadians is that we have to head right back to Canada again so there will be none of this staying out on the road for several weeks, doing 8.75 per day and whinging in truckstops that “My dispatcher wont let me go home” ■■■■■■■■ that can be heard in any TV lounge in any Pilot or Flying J. I suppose they could start sending Ontario trucks back up to western Canada and the former Yanke trucks to Ontario so they can do it the American way and have drivers away all the time.
Personally I dont welcome any American firm expanding in to Canada because although Canadian firms are far from perfect, I firmly believe that American drivers get treat worse and I in no way wish to see that expand over the border.
So whats in the deal for Celadon if the main Saskatoon hub is closing ? Trucks are leased ,no bricks and mortar , not aware of too many blue chip contracts in their portfolio .If there had been anything worth having the shrewd old mennonite brothers from Siemens (Kindersley) would’ve been sniffing around , shirley
Yanke do have some Inter-modal units on Canadian railways; maybe Celadon wanted to get into that side of things.
Maybe the Siemens bothers had already been in and sniffed out all the good work, they seem to have been putting a lot of new plant on the road lately and you don’t often see them with only one trailer in the prairies

Could be right Chris , also the new base at the GTH in Regina is still going ahead which would give Celadon a foothold in the West after closing Toontown .
