Went off the road at a strange angle fortunately seems like slow speed.
Wonder if he was on the wrong side of the road then realised when something came the opposite way at him.
looking at google maps if he came from that railway bridge then there is quite a twist on the camber of the road. he must of hit it with some force as there is crash barriers on each corner of the bridge
This time of year the recreational narrowboaters are getting active. Could imagine there will be a few boats queuing up until it’s out. They might be happy to help with any diesel that might need pumping out.
It happened at 02.40 am, to sound like CSI I’m guessing the driver nodded off at the wheel or had a medical incident to mechanical failure of some sort.
Who remembers the guy who was left hanging off a road bridge (was it A14?) because he’d spent most of his journey facetiming his “Philipino fiance”?
It’s a fairly narrow rural road so maybe he was hoofing it and there was another vehicle he was trying to avoid?
Or maybe he was like I driver I spoke to last year, who said when he feels tired he puts a film on Neflix on his tablet, and watches that to “keep himself awake”? (first hand experience, I’m not making that up)
probably this. dodgy camber in the road car came round the bend its easy to imagine as i said it must of been some thump to get through the crash barriers
At that site the barriers will likely have been on supports minted in the soil at the edge of an earth bank.
I doubt they would have saved a heavy car.
M-way “barriers” and the “Armco” on bridges etc will deflect a glancing blow, but will not stop much that hits them head on.
If you’re in a truck look on them as decoration, not as a safety device.
Don’t think he was asleep as he wouldn’t have been able to negotiate the s bend first. It is only an old wooden fence where he when through though from looking at Google earth
It’s not generally falling asleep, as in pushing out zeds, it’s actually a micro sleep, lasting from a second to a few seconds, enough time for it all to turn to excrement.
You can see the canal bridge in that image though too, brick wall dead ahead.
Although it is close to me I don’t often take a wagon along there, but I’m pretty sure you have to wait until you can clear both bridges or things get tight. In a car you can use the points inbetween to let someone by but probably don’t need to stop for cars approaching.
It’s quite popular with wagons running north from Amesbury.
Not being well up on canal matters (we don’t have any around here), I was unaware some are managed by charities, so matey boy who caused the fubar in this thread might have another set of people on his case for the havoc he’s caused
