Wreckers/recovery trucks

here,s one more of R.N.W

some one might recognize it was a tractor unit 6x2 midlift was sent away stretched and a small rear lift added

serious question, what sort of benefit would the small lift axle have? what sort of weight can that take?

It allows the underlift to be mounted closer to the centre of the rear axle which improves the trucks ability when suspend towing.

The Autocar on display at Truckfest used to be owned by my Uncle - a company called Newton Commercial Vehicles near Warrington. He got it in 81-82 then sold it to a guy down south where it was repainted into the livery seen here. It used to belong to Kauff’s of Florida and is a mixer chassis.

Stunning pictures people, hope to see some amazing trucks like these at truckfest this year!!!

Guys,
I’m thinking of having a go and building a model of an AEC Matador, ex army converted to wrecker, but cannot find any pic whatsoever of the stuff behind the cab. I can imagine there would be a winch but… a photo would help.
Anyone has something?

someone asked a question about why some wreckers are based on top flight trucks and others based on fleet trucks, and i think the answer is similar to haulage.some have all the bling and 620bhp and others just get on with it in a 380 or 420 standard sleeper.

did a scrap run to my local scrappy monday, and this was outside with im guessing his latest purchase on the back (didnt have time to stop and chat), ex gcs johnson i guess
