Today i got into a 2001 scania 124 and noticed that some one had been fiddling with the time on the tacho. So i duly put it forward to what i thought was the right time, 12.15pm to be precise! Anyway off i went up to road, came back to the yard at 8pm and realised after taking the chart out that in fact it had recorded 12.15am to 08.00am!!! hmm.
So i thought no problem i finished early yesterday should be ok, just about get 9 hours off in between. No such luck, only 8 hours in between!!
My question to you then, what do i need to write on the back of the chart to cover myself, (so anyone could see it was genuine mistake) or shall i throw it and do a manual entry for the day??

many thanks, G.
Personally I would keep it, with a brief note explaining your mistake. I would keep verification of the times you actually worked, Fuel receipt, weighbridge ticket etc. To help prove the hours you were actually working.
You did the right thing, honesty is the best policy and everyone can make mistakes. I made exactly the same mistake as you once a few years back, made a note on the back, didn’t hear any more of it.
The thing is that even if you didn’t work for a couple of days either side of it (and therefore didn’t have any daily/weekly rest issues either way) then if you had not written an explanation on the back it would technically have been the offence of creating a false record as the tacho was not a true representation of your days work. By admitting your error on the back your backside is covered though and unless you do stuff like that on a frequent basis you are unlikely to hear any more of it.
