Not having driven in the UK now for quite a while i cant comment on current stops/cafes ect but the worst two i can think of was the old Roadhouse cafe on the A11 at Redlodge, this place really was a health hazard! Only stopped there the once and remember a big row breaking out after a guy had taken a bite from a pie of some sort and inside was a half eaten spider…yes…he had eaten the other half! The other was the old ‘Truckers’ on the A38, food all over the floor and toilets akin to a sewage works…
Whats the worst youve ever had the misfortune of visiting?
it would be easier to name the better ones .
swindon truckstop[meaning the worst]
The Fox at Grantham, Swindon, Tysley Wharf and Lincoln Farm
For the disgusting food and the miserable woman who serves it - Markham Moor.
Swindon for sure.
Red Lodge, just can not eat there unless desperate.
Truckers Rest, there has always been a massive fly living inside. Same at Colsterworth.
Stibbington makes me ill.
Swindon, can’t stand the smell of the used chip fat.
Quernhow, say no more.
Stracathro, stopped once for food and never called again.
Alconbury when it was NT Nightowl, grey fish fingers, interesting. Lincoln Farm, mixed grill was a tin of beans poured over cremated sausages, liver and something else and what’s that steel chimney all about?
Markham Moor, had food once and vowed never to eat there again.
Barnsdale Bar on the left just off the A1 North. The owner said to me one time Look at this, layby full and nobody in. Got myself barred for saying out loud Yeah not surprised ya bacons crap.
Crawley Crossing, ■■■ ash on everything.
I haven’t nighted out for years, what surprises me is the amount of drivers who eat ■■■■ from roadside vans when you can get microwaves cookers and fridges in modern trucks and supermarkets on every corner.

In the same vein…
Stopped there a while ago with the missus, and had always found the place ok, but on this particular occasion asked the old bag behind the window at the entrance if they had female showers, only to be told very rudely that they didn’t despite the fact that the girls behind the food counter took my money for a one, and she wouldn’t refund me it until I kicked off an almighty stink about it.
To be fair, my missus would have used the mens if I had have been stood outside the cubicle as a prude she most certainly isn’t, but we had a long day that day and she couldn’t be arsed with anymore drama.
You would have thought though, with the growing amount of female drivers these days, a couple of ladies showers in there would be a good idea.
Ken.

Bang on m8
I stopped at one in Portsmouth one night then must be one of the worst I’ve been in
It’s been a long time since I visited a UK truckstop or transport cafe, but I can still remember the bad ones, Swindon was the worst by far, then Avonmouth with its sticky tables from the fat that hung in the air and the way the food was slopped on the plate, rudest staff were in the Barton Lorry Park, I actually threw my dinner up the wall in there once after being called a self pleasurer for mentioning that lumpy gravy did not go well with Gammon with a pineapple ring and a fried egg. I ended up in a curry house in Darlington and ended up so drunk I threw up three times on the cab ride back to the lorry park, but that’s another story.
As Punchy Dan said, it would be a shorter list to name the good ones, one of my favorites was the Merrychest, another was the cafe on the west side of Chelmsford on the old A12, I first went in there when I was a kid out in the lorry with my Dad and used it often when I was driving myself. Can’t think of any others I’d want to eat in.

Spot on, the majority of them today dish up second rate, greasy grub, poor quality ingredients, frozen chips and veg, all of which that have probably been microwaved to ■■■■ death , in other words total crap,… and don’t get me started on most ■■■■ lay by burger vans, why do drivers continue to eat this ■■■■? Why settle for it?
My criteria for good food in a truckstop or transport cafe is whether or not I would take my Mrs and kids there for a family meal on a day out (in theory only btw, I aint that much of a cheapskate )
The only couple that spring to mind that are excellent (imo) are at the opposite ends of the country, The Chalet Cafe at Cowfold Horsham, and Doug’s Diner Penrith. (I called in there one Sat morning and it was locals that outnumbered truckers, which says it all)
I couldn’t see me taking them for a ‘treat’ at Lincoln ■■■■ Farm or Trucker’s rest or such crapholes.

Agree there, also I’ll agree that Titan and Swindon are dire too.
I remember staying at Trafford Park a few times in the late 80’s and that wasn’t too clever either nor the strippers
Having eaten and slept at both Red Lodge and Lincoln farm, I thought they were ok. The showers at both were basic but clean, and the food was nothing more than your average greasy spoon, but it was cooked well and the staff were pleasant enough. Only ever eaten at Avonmouth and they’re hopeless if you’re a veggie (I’m not) but otherwise fine. Perhaps my standards are just lower than everyone else’s.
