Worldwide overlanding trucking jobs

Dragoman, they do uk to Asia,Africa, around South America,USA,how do you get the job.Middle east old Spice route and Silk Routes.

you’ll probably need a pcv licence.

One firm they train you in their workshop for 6 months to learn mechanics, then off to anywhere as a co-driver and map reader, probational period, then a lead driver.

It’s a lot different than working in Europe.

A good friend of mine works for them, loves it.

Dont need a PCV if you have a UK LGV but they are not recruiting at the moment.

Looks like a fantastic experience, but this…

  1. Do you have a maximum age limit for applicants?
No, however please note our current leaders on the road are typically between 25 and 40 years of age.

tends to make me think that they only take you on if you are between 25 and 40 years of age. If I was younger and my circumstances were different I would have a go at it.

Ditto !
Unfortunately it seems 45 is over the hill now. Not sure my wife would be over impressed either, but that’s not a first.

i wonder how many get up the duff on the way?

I can understand it, and I had a very adventurous job when I was in my 30s but I don’t have the same level of energy or enthusiasm now and I don’t think they would be looking for an extra from “Grumpy Old Men” to act as a tour leader.

Plus, I have children who are only just into their teens and I’m not ready to let go of them yet. Ideally, in a couple of years time when they have grown a little more, I might go back on roadshow work and be away for a couple of months at a time, but a minimum commitment of 15 months would be too much at this time.

It also says it’s more of a lifestyle than anything else and you won’t get rich doing it so you should consider your home financial commitments before applying- basically I think you get living expenses but otherwise you are there for the same reason as the punters, except you aren’t paying for it.

In the next life maybe!

I very much doubt I would. :stuck_out_tongue:

bit to ■■■■■■■■ for me.
my kids have grown up now, just got to get the last 1 out the nest so to speak.
just started to get into the touring thing, but now back home looking after sick relatives. when the time is right i will go back to the tour work, 2 or 3 months at a time is no prob and its a decent number, but don’t think i could do 15 months :open_mouth:

I wouldn’t mind the work or the places, I looked at their website and they do Cape Town to Victoria Falls which is a trip I did with a couple of mates the year before last, don’t know why I never thought of doing it back in the day, that or maybe Top Deck Travel who used to do similar.

I did the Cape Town to Harare trip,4 and half weeks, via Swaziland,Lesoto, and Mozambique, beware of major personality clashes in the group.

What, between you and everybody else?

It was a disaster, some left the trip early, the atomosphere was horrendous, with all that stunning scenery.
The onboard water tank was sterilsed with chemicals, and i remember drinking stones and grit.

I applied to Dragoman about 15 years ago. Invited to go to a meeting in London, but lost my bottle. I have probably got the brochure somewhere!

Thinking about it, if I couldn’t make London to meet all that tame totty, what would I have been like at the Jaisalmer Fort with a flat battery?

one of my cousins works at Dragoman. I think he is in Iran at the moment, judging by the last load of pictures he put up on facebook.
