Working time directive scrap it?

Should working time directive be scrapped as I’ve seen me pull Over trying to get to a depot and I’ve got plenty driving time to get their and working time directive being a pain.

You need to read up on it then, the RTD cannot stop you getting anywhere if you understand it.

Well to be fair the 6 hour rule can be a pain in the posterior on occasions, I’ve had to split my break because of it on several occasions.

Personally I’d be happy to see the working time regulations scrapped

Apart from the very big companies nobody takes any notice of it.My agency has just sent me a form to sign saying i will take no notice of the 48 hour average week.

Which you are obviously not going to sign eh?

It’s one thing making a ‘mistake’ and forgetting about the WTD but another thing entirely putting it in writing that you are going to actively ignore an entire set of regulations.

The agency want you to break this law, how many others will they also want you to break? Regular folk can opt out of the 48 hour thing in the version of the WTD which applies to them, we can’t.

Thats the hard bit if i don’t sign will i get any work

I imagine this form is an opt-out for the average 48 hour week, I’m guessing that your agency have either mistakenly sent the form to everyone on their books or don’t know that we work to a different WTD than other workers they may employ.

You may want to give them a ring and point out to your agency that there is no opt-out for drivers and see what they say, it’s probably either a mistake or ignorance on their part

When I was on general then it didn’t really bother me, as with POA I always had plenty of hours (sorry to swear by the way if Coffeeholic’s reading this).
Since I changed jobs last year though, to a job that doesn’t see much POA & a company that doesn’t want us to use it anyway, then I think the WTD/RTD is fantastic. I’ve had 15 days off on top of my 33 days holiday this year just to keep my average down. On salary & full pay so bring it on!
Last week was week 18 (the last of the period) & over the 5 previous weeks I had 7 days off,so no, I for one & the rest of the lads where I work, definitely don’t want to see the demise of the current WTD/RTD reg’s.
