Can anyone explain the rules to me regarding working hours if for example you have a small side business? How are these hours worked on the self employed work recorded if at all? It’s all very confusing. What if you rent out a property for example and spend time managing that. Does this just get ignored or does it catch up with you if not accurately recorded.

DVSA and the law expect you to record non driving work hours and a diary is acceptable by DVSA
Those non driving hours cannot be counted as rest
To add to what ROG has said, for your none driving work days you only need to record the start and finish times, it’s only so the powers that be can see that you’ve had the correct daily and weekly rest periods.
