It reads to me that the ‘shocking’ bit is where Stobart, apparently, have awarded themselves the authority to decide which bank holidays actually are bank holidays and which aren’t. It’s a shame stuff like this, estimated wages and so on weren’t in their TV programme. From what I read on here, Stobart must be the employer of absolute last resort.

Thats why all the riffraff work for um,all the drivers off the tele programme have moved on
Plenty of retail based jobs where your contracted to weekends & bank holidays on a rota. Rather than a basic 20 days annual holiday, you get 28 instead.

If that’s what it says in your contract then that’s what you get. I don’t think it’s OK either but nowadays, regrettably, it ain’t unusual either. If you don’t want to do it, then perhaps the lesson is don’t work for Stobart.

Yep, good money all right but I’m willing to bet you’d have to be passed out to go trackside (PTS certificate) if you’re doing that work.

Who gets 20 days holiday anyway?
Most workers who work a 5-day week must receive 28 days’ paid annual leave per year. This is calculated by multiplying a normal week (5 days) by the annual entitlement of 5.6 weeks.
20 days plus 8 statuary days afaia. The 8 statuary days are to cover national (bank) holidays but don’t neccesarily have to be taken/granted on those days.
Payments are as agreed in your contract of employnent.
There were a handful of container wagons southbound on the A1 on and off Christmas morning. Unliveried though so may have been o/d’s runnin home.

Knew it was something like that and that there have been recent changes.
It’s never really affected me as I’ve always been lucky enough to have decent employers who give more than the legal entitlement.

What’s shocking about it? These days most shops open Boxing Day, so somebody’s got to re-stock them. The days of triple time etc on bank holiday working are long gone mate. I doubt if the legendary Tesco shelf stackers get owt extra.
