Worked out for a friend

Just a quickie, a mate of mine has just come over for a couple of weeks, He’s managed to pass his written tests but due to time could’nt take his class 1, he has however managed to get a job & is due back here in August, so thats how to do it rock up knock on doors & get yourself busy over here, it worked for him so what are you waiting for…

Did the same in 05,discovered Perth ON,great little town, saw a trucking co on the outskirts and went for a visit, got the job offer there and then, just before they were bought out buy Laidlaws and it all went pear shaped, hence being in SK nowadays, without regrets  .Knock on those doors and they’ll invite you in.

Good to see some people taking the bull by the horns and actually helping themselves instead of expecting it all handed to them on a plate.

He looked at all the usual forums & thought it was terrible over here :open_mouth:

He wondered why I would put up with it & so came & saw for himself, the folks here welcomed him with open arms, he’s just waiting for His LMO around 12 weeks, I’m well pleased for Him, He put His money where His mouth was so to speak, flogged His motorbike to fund Himself got on a plane & that was that. Did the same Myself in 06 & I’m back here on round 2 so it can’t be too bad…

A Brit lad showed up at our place a few weeks back doing just the same thing, handing in his CV and showing his face around the companies.
I came back after a bad time with a previous company (H&R), and am still loving it with the new crew.

I don’t understand this recruiting thing, I dunno how people come here to work after never even having visited the place, I mean fair play to them that have & are going to they’ve got balls in doing so.

I think rocking up here all but guarantees a start rather than e-mails & waffling on forums though tbhwy, I told My mucca the same & the first firm He saw welcomed Him with open arms but had never done The LMO thing the second lot had & after a natter offered Him the job on the spot forms filled in there & then, I’m really pleased for Him & hope the LMO thing does’nt drag on too long, I don’t suppose it was cheap, on the other hand His flights where £600 via Chicago which is dirt cheap really, so i guess really if He spent £1500 & got a guaranteed start from it it was money well spent & in reality not that expensive when you look at the bigger picture.

Yeah round 2 is easier than round 1 I’m sure you’d agree, I can’t get to grips with the H&R thing they’ve some fleet thats for sure but it really seems that a lot of folks don’t have anything good to say about them, a bit like Big Freight I suppose they too conjur up some arguing about the good & bad of what people have experienced with them, I bumped into an Irish guy today who’d started there the same as Me & had moved on, we both agreed they had got us over here which was the start you need in reality is’nt it?
Its a take as you find thing in all honesty I reckon…

canadaian affair.com have dirt cheap flights. I looked at a couple of companies in SK a couple years back even had the £1200 or so saved to fly over and sort things out but other life happened and had to put it off lol The ease with places like H&R is that they come over to the UK for interviews so makes things a bit easier and I’m sure a lot of guys will use it as a stepping stone for other things.

Flysheet’s mate rented a room for a month at a house with four other Brit drivers in residence so got to hear just what the job was like. Good and bad. He got shown around to just about everything in the Winnipeg-Steinbach area and spoke to guys who had come over and sorted out their own Licence, LMO and Job.
Coming over to check things out is the way to go.
