Unless you have tried them you wouldn’t know how much better they are, and having done so I shall continue to use them from November to March of each year. Both of our cars have them and we keep them separate rims that a mate’s local tyre company keeps stored for us - tenner each car to swap over each time.

its propaganda...nothing but an advert. what are these "summer" tyres hes comparing them to…as i said earlier,a good quality all round tyre will see you through all the british climate has to offer us.
30 mph brake test on snow and ice…in this country …i dont think so. drag race...yeah right  oh and then theres the convienience factor.where am i supposed to keep the eight spare wheels buy a shed, perhaps
cheap wheels on ebay …again…not happening
My Pirelli winter tyres fitted to the arse end of the beemer. Sorry about the pic, it was taken to show the damage caused when muppet taxi decided to shove beemer out of the way
Not had a chance to test them in the snow, because I’ve still not got my car back from the accident which was on the 7th December
Since then, I’ve been driving around in a courtesy Vauxhall insignia with spray on rubber on 17" wheels and still got to work everyday, not been stuck etc…
Although, it was fun last night, even the ambulance route past my house was slippery as hell, would’ve liked to try the winter tyres in that, but I still got home safe and without incident.
Parked my truck up at 10pm last night, and even that was drama free except for cars slowing us down far too much because they are scared - but not scared enough to get the hell out of the middle lane and into the inside lane

Did you go upto the ventalation shaft whilst you were up there? I used to go up there a lot for a ‘picnic’ with the missus
Then round to Dunford Bridge to take the other green lane back to the S bends on the Holmefirth Road - nice puddle section on there.

just replced my oe michelins at 29 thou…plenty of tread left, but side walls cracking.
car is 7 years old
Thats low mileage.I get 40,000 miles+ out of mine. The tyres on my transit are over seven years old and still good tread and walls.
yes,it was annoying to scrap tyres with a good 5 mil tread depth.i wondered if it could be the tyre dressing stuff they put on at the car wash which was attacking the tyre…but the tyre fitter said not.
i bought the car pre reg…so i supose it could have been standing for a considerable time before then

I’m overimpressed…So you know the Trabant? Not so many people do in the UK…
There is a Trabant in use near me. I see it regularly. I once owned a Wartburg.
I never understood, how did the GDR sell them to te British… They had to be incredibly cheap. In my country the people had to wait for 2 years to buy them.I never had a Wartburg, but my first ever car was a Trabant in 1987…

From reading your posts you average barely over 4000 mile a year in your vehicle so probably don’t see the need to spend on winter tyres. I for the past 5 years have never used winters as my mondeo would go anywhere. However this year I changed my car and my current car will quite easily spin in the rain. I bought a set of rims and tyres from eBay for my car. An paid £180. Not bad considering 2 of the tyres were brand new at £75 each! Last night I drove through 8 inches of snow covered pennine roads and the m62. Not once did I Wheel spin not once did I get stuck. Is it down to my driver skills. I doubt it. However I don’t consider it a major expense. I save as my summer tyres are not been worn sat i the garage and and my alloys aren’t getting damaged by the crap and salt. My wife was of the same opinion as you till it snowed this week and I lost my car to her as her car wouldn’t get off the drive. She has now changed her opinion and bought a set last night for hers for £140. Considering we both do 15000 miles a year each to work over some of the highest routes in the uk I don’t think £320 is bad for piece of mind for both cars is bad. At the end of the day if you’ve tried them an don’t like them fair enough. If not so be it. I have and wouldn’t be without them again now. And no it’s not ■■■■■■■■ its fact on my cars winter tyres perform better on the routes I drive. I take it you won’t replace your 7 year old car as you won’t like how technology and times have changed and improved.

my car doesnt spin in the rain or the snow.ive tried to get the t/c light to come on,but there is simply too much grip. my alloys are unmarked/as new if these winter tyres are so much better than your previous ones,i suggest you had the wrong ones on to start with...ill say it again…a good quality ALL ROUND tyre will cope perfectly with our climate.
i was toying with the idea of changing my car this year, but as mine has just turned 30k,and i cant afford the car i REALLY want...i think ill wait a while

My parents had 2 Wartburgs in the early 1970’s. I bought one of them from my parents in about 1973/4, which was the first car I actually owned rather than had the use of. They were UDA 430L and SOE 10M if I remember correctly. Wartburgs were cheaper than most other cars available to us but were better than the Moskvich or the Ladas on offer at the time. Trabants weren’t seen in the UK until after the wall came down. During the 1960’s, while we still lived in Canada, my dad had a Lloydwagen which I think was similar to the VW bus. I remember Dad going on about Wartburgs even back then. It seems the major interest he had in them was the idea of a twostroke engine and a freewheel.
Hi all.In answer to gas gas question.I must be honest and say that when i first moved up her i bought a set of Cooper M and S studded winter tyres. These were on special.Ithought that they were the bee’s knees but as soon as i started speaking to the local guys they were saying that they were crap as they were American ‘‘winter’’ tyres and were hopeless in Scandinavia.I have had them on for 3 winters and dicovered that they were right in what they said.Even with studs the grip is less than optimal for up here.I have just replaced them with a set of Hakkapelitta 7 SUV studded tyres. It really is unbelievable the difference. These really do stick to the road like ■■■■ to a blanket.I shall take out the studs from the Coopers and use them for summer tyres. It really does prove the value of ‘‘local knowledge and experience’’.Mike

You must be really bad at maths, You wouldnt have 8 spares, 4 would be on your vehicle. As for Winter tires vs summer tires, Winter tires win hands down. I dare you to bring your summer tires here and drive on them … , keep a towing companies phone number on speed-dial.
since I’m situated ca 1500km south of hutpiks location, my winter tyres are only €50 a piece local recaps:
and they’re great! I keep them on separate rims, so when one morning I couldn’t get moving due to fresh snow (on almost brand new nokian summer tyres), I just spent an hour (most of it drinking coffe and cursing) replacing the wheels and off I went. Otherwise there were queues running into weeks in tyreshops by people who had forgotten the latitude they live in.
they are required by law from dec to feb around here and my congratulations to the people that say they don’t need them, because they’re such good drivers - I am proud to be a member of a board where there are members, who have successfully beat the laws of physics
