Windows 8

Just got a new laptop with windows 8 but when you move the cursor across the screen the time and date come up in the middle and down the right hand side there is a list. This is getting annoying anyone no how to stop it happening.

The chap who sorts out my PC has replaced all windows 8 systems with window 7 ones

I am no expert but he is so if he says windows 8 is crap then I tend to believe him

There was another system that came after XP which was also crap according to him and many others

That will be the new charms bar as MS now call it. This link may help.

Don’t understand why he would do that. Seems like a whole load of work. :unamused: Drivers may be a problem for new hardware designed to work with Win 8 as a few HP users have already found. Downgrade rights are only available for Windows 8 Pro, to suit the business community. Not Windows 8 (with an OEM licence not a retail) that most home users would have pre-installed on on a new PC or laptop. The only way to do them legally would be to buy a retail copy of Windows 7 to re-install.

:unamused: So what’s crap about it? Yes the interface takes a little getting used to and removal of the start menu is a pain, but can be worked around. Win 8 from the beginning was designed to work with touch screens as well as mice and keyboards. Hnece the huge differences between it and other versions of Windows.

That is MS Vista, yes it’s [zb] [zb].

Thanks Colingl that link is just what I needed

Windows 8 is the new way ahead, I love these post of people saying its crap ! I find it superb, and have put it on all my kit, (laptops, and media centre) Its a new concept, everthing is there just a different way of getting to it, once you are used to it you will want to use nothing else. I do think Microsoft have a chance now of pulling a bit of lost trade back from Apple. Dont let the luddites tell you its junk, and these tails of folkd rolling back to Win 7 make me smile its like the ones who rolled back to XP from Win 7 (or vista)

The computer expert who fixes my stuff states that windows 8 is about as useless as vista but XL and 7 are great

Speaking to many others it seems they agree

Vista was OK, 95/98 was great, NT & XP are not user friendly for normal home users.

I have just put 8 on my friends laptop and it did take a couple of hours to teach her how to use it.

Windows 95 was ok for dos based applications.
Windows 98 was similar to 95, but dos was implemented, thinned out, and only really used for system.
Windows ME was useless.
Windows 2000 was basically a business version of 98.
Windows XP came out in 2001 and was perfect. It had enough of old windows to use old programs, and was new enough to last as a preferred platform until windows 7 came out.
Windows Vista was as good as Windows ME.
Windows 7 is brilliant.
Windows 8 is mainly designed as an extension to Windows 7. Hence why Windows 8 is only £25 from the Microsoft website. There is no real need or point to upgrade to Windows 8 unless you have a touch screen laptop. The main difference between 7 and 8 is the GUI. The second difference is that windows 8 is lighter. A diet version of win7.
Really, comparing Windows 7 and Windows 8 is like comparing a 4x2 Scania R500 with a 6x2 Scania R500. The only difference being is that Windows 8 is more versatile.

If you havent got a touch screen monitor, then the esc and windows key on the keyboard are important on 8

To be fair I have 5 computers at home now, 2 on XP, 2 on Vista, 1 on Seven and I have no problems with the Vista since I gave it some more RAM

I have not used Win8 but there is a thread on msfn.org under Windows8 called “Deeper Impressions” now at 88 pages and counting.
It apears that Win8 is bombing worse than Vista so much so that my wife and I are not touching it with a bargepole.
Im sorry but Win8 is meant for toys not work
