Winch equipped low-loader or beavertail? Doncaster to Dover

Evening All,

I have purchased a 1960s Ex-BRS parcels truck from a chap in Stainforth outside Doncaster. DN7 5DD. I need it moved down to Dover, CT16 3AA. It does not run, but does roll and steer. It would need winching on and off. It is 24’ long, 7’ 6" wide and 11’ high. It weighs 4 tons unladen.

Anyone interested in moving it for me? Even if you couldn’t arrange bringing it all the way, could you collect and hold it whilst I organise onward transport? The seller has been getting very impatient with me and I need to get it off his site ASAP. The chap I had arranged to do the move for me has gone “sick” and disappeared off the radar, and a second company is giving me the runaround.

I look forward to hearing from anyone with suggestions. My mobile number is 07970 416638. I’ve a full C+E, digital tacho card and valid Driver CPC and could help out by double-manning if necessary.

All the best, Glen Anderson.

bJS of doncaster have a low loader with a winch you could try them they normally use it just for recovering wagons but they might do a job with it they are flat out at moment but you never know

Cheers Donnyboy, I’ll give them a call. My main priority is to get it collected and away from where it is, so even if they can do that and poke it in a corner of their yard while I sort out onward transport it would be a help.

Putting on a figure of what you are willing to pay may get more response

I’m more interested in getting the job done than on what it costs to be honest. Funds aren’t bottomless, far from it, but I’m not trying to get it done at minimum money. The first company were going to do it for £750, but have dropped off the radar, the second for £650 but are unable to lay on a winch equipped trailer without calling in a favour from a third party who is also reluctant to answer the phone.

I’ve paid for the lorry, but the seller is threatening to give me my money back and re-advertise it, which I don’t want to happen, obviously.

I can, if necessary, get myself up there with a tow vehicle and a hand winch, but not before Friday next week, which is my backup position, but it’s a long way there and back in the Land-Rover if I can find someone to do it for me.

All i meant was if someones sat at home doing nothing and they can see the pound notes in front of them they would be more inclined to get off there backside and come and do it for you

If i was doing it i would price the job myself at 750 so your not miles away with your figures

(Thats priced on me being in Doncaster which i.m not)

Cheers. I suspected that’s what you meant. Thanks for the confirmation on the price too, that’s good to know.

It’s Easter weekend, so nobody wants to answer the phone anyway, which is why I thought a post on here might catch someone “off-duty” so to speak. Looks like I’ve got to stew until Tuesday now. It’s so frustrating being so far away, and capable of doing the driving/grafting/whatever, but being entirely dependent on others. I’d even rent a tractor and trailer and do it myself if I could.

Try Andy or Simon at APS in Doncaster.

Cheers Ben, I’ve called them this morning and left a message as their office is shut over the weekend. I’ll try them Tuesday morning.
