Wincanton Texaco?

Hi guys, anyone know what wincanton are like to work for on the texaco tankers contract?
There advertising for drivers in my area in NI. Im currently on fridges but did a bit of tanker work years ago. So interested on giving them a try. Anyone any experience on their shifts? In my head they sound as though they could be tough, due to the switching from days to nights?
Week1- 4am starts 3 days.
Week2- 4am starts 4 days.
Week3- 4pm starts 5 nights. Thanks in advance guys.[emoji106]

That’s pretty backwards in this day and age expecting people to swap between working days and nights. Also strange how days it’s 3 and 4 days and yet nights which arguably should be a max of 4 nights like it used to be is 5 nights.

Personally id avoid it at all costs even if the money was too good to be true. It’s either days or nights one or the other in my book and that is usually down to a personal preference.

No harm in saying you’re interested but is there any specific reason why they can’t make it at least 4 weeks days and 4 weeks nights.
Or even better 8 weeks days 8 weeks nights.
At face value they are just needlessly/deliberately making the job unattractive.

Think thats the kind of shifts all of the big payers do. Wincanton texaco, hoyer BP etc.
Never tried nightshift. Im used to days so them shifts might only be suited for a certain type of person.

You would think that would make more sense. But think they have been doing shifts like that for years. Id be afraid of it messing up my body clock, no sleep, constantly being tired, like a zombie[emoji57] if that was the case id be nowhere near it. Iv no experience in nightshift or worse, transitioning from days to nights.[emoji85] just sounds like that could mess one up lol

Many tanker jobs, fuel chemical or food, are 364 days a year with round the clock delivery schedules, but it seems to me only in fuel do you find such cruel shift patterns likely to cause undue harm and exhaustion to the drivers so employed.
I don’t get it, just operate 4 on 4 off, permanent, days or nights, most will want days i imagine so you could offer a few back shifts too to cope with the late opening but not overnight hours of typical supermarket fuel stations, the job gets covered and i’m absolutely convinced almost all drivers would be happy with the change, better pay on back shift better still on nights…in fact they’d be inundated with applicants.

Jesus bloody Christ talk about feeling sorry for yourself , cruel , for god sakes it was a regular thing when I was in engineering , days / nights / days or earlies onto evenings onto nights , 6-2 , 2-10 , 10 - 6
Only this week my daughter ( nurse ) has done sun night , mon nights , wed days ( finish tues morn 7 am start back wed morn 7 am , off Thursday / fri , days sat , sun
It’s getting embarrassing on here these days , 99% seem to think there the only people doing a weeks work , how hard done by they are
It’s just embarrassing , a lot of nurses etc then go home and look after 2/3 kids , if you can’t cope with a week of days onto nights I’d suggest you sign on as not fit to bloody work

Thats what im thinking. Sounds like a cruel shift. In my head, half of me is telling myself maby it would work ok if i tried the shift. But another part is telling me i couldnt stick that.[emoji57] for a fella that works 7am to finish, it may be a bit too much of a shock to the system[emoji23]

Nightwork is mostly all about shifting your body clock so that night is your day and day is time for sleeping.
I did 15 years of permanent nights and weekends were effectively just a couple of nights off and even anything less than 3 weeks holiday was a struggle to switch back to daytime living for a short periods.Similar when returning to work back to nights after a decent long holiday.
Switching back and forward over that small timescale will wreck your health at best or could result in an accident caused by tiredness at worse.
It’s also why 4 on 4 off shift pattern is pointless on nights much better to work 5 or even 6 nights per week and to have an extra 3 or 4 weeks holiday entitlement.
I’m surprised that with all the h and s propaganda those types of shift pattern are still allowed.
Night work should be based on a minimum of one month periods not switching between nights and days within a few weeks.

So you’d know all about the row going on in the NHS about nurses now not being allowed to sleep on break, similar to the fire brigade, during the ‘night shift’.
The health an safety hazards of needlessly switching circadian rythms are well known let alone while in charge of a truck full of flammable liquid.
Why would you need/want to switch it around that frequently and at what cost to health as nursing staff will soon find out.

Iv no experience on transitioning from day work to night work. Thats why im asking. Just inquiring if people find it tough with lack of sleep etc. Wouldnt want to be standing infront of a judge because i fell asleep at the wheel of a petrol tanker. Dont think a jury will see it as you see it.
Thanks for your advice[emoji106]
