Wincanton - Cormar Carpets Contract - Leeds

Hi guys does anyone have any idea what the Wincanton/Cormar contract consists of at all ? what they like to work for ? single man ? wages ? etc…any info appreciated cheers!

Not 100% mate but they do run out of our yard at Sherburn. From what ive seen its all single man work class 2 stuff and they appear to be doing about 8-9 hours per day starting at 06.00

cheers mate yes its from sherburn in elmet too.

I did Cormar Carpets in Bury, and it’s Class 2, multi drop, single man, you get a sling and wheels for the heavies, usually help off the shop keeper and it’s a steady job.

I applied to stay there (was on agency) and I’m currently a container driver, so gives you a clue, not really hard work - although it can seem it.

edit

Just to add, they do trunk class 1 wagon + drag drop boxes to get the boxes up for delivery.

I used to be in the traffic office, when they were Lane Group, and looked after the depot at Rugby.
Carpet rounds, all 1 man units. Daf with pull down bunk. Never had a man on a night out. Had a winch and trolley in the back to aid tipping.
All my guys out at 0600 all back 1530 latest. They all liked it. Can’t recall the wages…Sorry. Enjoy.

cheers guys, anyone any ideas of wages and type of trucks in leeds then ? is it regional or national delivery do you know thanks ?

Can’t tell you the wages, up here they were Daf CF’s prime movers and rigids all with drop boxes.

It’ll be regional / semi regional, they have places all over to cover areas, and trunk the stuff in at night using wagon + drag / drop boxes.

Cormar used to be a great job when they run their own trucks out of Ramsbottom. I did agency work in the late 80s, a typical run for ex, Ramsbottom to Musselburgh, one drop on a Bedform TM rigid, a night out, back empty! I made the mistake of coming straight back, a total of 8.5 hours driving, I was pulled up by one of the full time drivers, that’s a bloody night out! I was sternley informed.
Problem was I had come off multi drop parcels running all over UK, Manchester to London on a Monday morning, 40+ drops then back Tuesday for example, so wasn’t used to taking my time so to speak.
At the time they ran mostly Bedford TK, TM Rigids, and TM artics, although they had just started replacing with the then newish DAF 1900s. I’m not sure if they still run their own trucks.

Wages c£24k. Class 2, Mon - Fri start at 0600, job and knock.

60 plate DAF CF prime mover used by Senior Driver and Night Trunker and 3 10 plate DAF LF’s.

Cover from Pennines to East Coast and from Harrogate to Louth.

Very good company to work for, they just leave you alone to get on with it.
