Wincanton containers wage deal

You don’t fight, you don’t win and as for this bull ■■■■ the boss told me to do it,isn’t that what Hitlers men said come on guys this is a joke and without unity your screwed the fight will always be won by the greedy’s.

Where are the unions? Or do they think this is fair?

when wincanton had asda Washington it was £5.56 an hour in 1998. time and a half after 8 hours no increase other than shift allowance for weekends mind.

The members are the union, no members no union, it’s not a collective mummy you pick up and put down as and when it suits.
You only have to read some of the comments on this very forum to see that some call the unions all the names under the sun, won’t join nor participate, get crapped on from a great height by bully bosses, yet in other cases are quite happy to trouser the benefits negotiated by the members chosen shop stewards and their forebears over time…oh and still complain endlessly about it all i might add.

I’m a union member (for what it’s worth), and will be asking my regional rep what the union’s comment on such t&c’s is. I was under the impression that Wincanton had union represention?

I suspect even if there is union rep at Winc Containers, that there’s very few members, can’t see the union recommending that garbage whatever the membership.
We haven’t heard from single person on this contract yet on this thread, maybe they just don’t give a fig any more and up to a point that’s understandable, if they have any sense they’re spending every spare moment looking for a proper job.

Be interesting to hear the reps comments, though i suspect most of 'em will be unprintable… :open_mouth:

Plugster:
well with the industry short by 44000 drivers… i can see wincanton are now leading the pack in enticing the next generation of driver to part with £2000 of their money to go and work for shelf stacker pay, still another 2 years and the dole will be putting you throught for your class 1 . and then as its been said earlier in the post, people will be regreting not taking this great rate while it was on offer

The thing is - all these newly qualified ex-jobcentre bods with class one licences - won’t have a job to go to, because the only work that “urgently requires them” is agency, or over-houred near minimum wage guff like wincontinent seem to be offering here… :unamused:

Agencies have recently attempted to drop the “two year” clause to new sign-ups. Their insurance firms are taken a dim view of it though. They’d rather insure an immigrant with 10 years experience than a local talent who’s only just passed - when it comes to working out of different yards from week to week as one does on agency… :exclamation:

When I worked at hanbury davies a few years ago they tried to implement this rolling week thing we simply did 3 x 15 another 10 0n Thursday (55hrs]then at 15.00 we all informed the operators that we were off home for the week as we were on a rolling week and they had best get on to the agency for 60 drivers to all work the Friday, they quickly sussed this aint gonna work as it can just as easily used to drivers advantage.this wincanton deal is fairly typical in containers as its a life style job always tramping,i have a few friends still there and they all take home fairly decent money …I now work for a major supermarket and my houly rates are way in access of these rates my overtime rate is just shy of double the rate shown in this wincanton deal but ohh boy do I pay TAX AND MORE TAX I earn a fair bit more but actually bank less than some mates that work this wincanton contract.Containers has always been tramping and long hours but in the past ive done a 15hr day and drove the truck for 20 mins.i got more rest and sleep on containers than any job ever…if you were on a 70 hr week 20 hrs would of been on the bed kipping or reading a book.its a better job than that paper contract suggests

kin hell thats 5 quid an hour less than my rate and 10 hrs more on paper might give it a look in 2017 when my rent goes up but they will have to cut the hours sod that oh and im working saturday this week and will get gross nearly 2/3rds that weekly pay   MORE FOOL the takers on this firm
