Williams Bros (Wales) Ltd - TDG Williams

thought they were based at madley herefordshire they used to haul dairy products from the co op dairy at llngadog and did they change the colour of the wagons to blue and yellow

Williams Bros did have a depot at Stoney street Madley, then had a depot at Albion Garage Peterchurch, where Tony Lewis now run his fleet of tippers from.

The Williams bros I mentioned were green ,red and white, their main depot was Queensferry . I don’t recall them being blue and yellow,
they were took over by TDG.
The depot I went to was in Church street, Peterchurch. As you turned into Church st. the entrance was a few yards on the right,
Is that the place you mentioned Dave?

Thats the place Trev, they were at Madley before they moved to Peterchurch, can’t remember the colours, they were green, but perhaps as ianto says they run some on a different colour. It was definately Williams Bros (Wales).
Cheers Dave.

used to go into them at wrexham about 10 years ago on kimberly-clark contract on lenham storage. i remember the shunter tom. lenham had a couple in there every day. we were doing kellogs out of lenham at the time also but couldn’t get a load out of wrexham south for some strange reason or other. so it was over to swizzles at newmilns for load south. i remember when we tipped in one of the sheds and my mate was pulling out to let me in. they had them plastic sheet things above the door to keep the weather out. me being a bit green walked out behing the trailer, which had all this plastic on the roof and…WWWHHHHAAAACKKKK!!! nearly knocked the crap out me. lesson learned very quickly and painfully.

Hi - Ianto,
Williams Bros - Peterchurch / Madley - were green and red the same as Williams Bros North Wales.
They changed the Name and colours to - Hereford Transport yellow and blue in the 70s. They changed again
when TDG took over around the 80s to - TDG Williams.
Our little firm in Llandovery hauled for Williams in the 60s to the 80s, as you know Ianto.
Cheers - Hywel.

When i worked for them in the 70s from a small depot out in the sticks near lymm in cheshire they had a depot at lampeter.
regards dave.

I worked in the warehouse at Wrexham depot 1990/92 i learnt very quickly to keep away from the plastic door curtains as wagons were pulling out

An article about the wagon and drag appeared in some vintage magazine a few years back ,possibly the Classic Atkinson club magazine. The trailer behind the Scania looks like one that was operated by an outfit in the 70’s with yellow and grey ERF A series and Merc1626’s that steered the axles via a fixed coupling to the rear of the unit. This was on block work and was supposed to help in confined spaces. I’ m thinking Plasmor but they operated Foden 8 leggers.

boden that compamy your talking about was ENSOR they had a block plant in Sandbach I run out of that plant78/79. If we look around theres a photo of a 8 legger Foden on scrapbook. They had another plant at Ellistown nr coalville. The ERF tractor units had a fishtail type fitting on the back crossmember and a
connecting bar to the front of the bodie.the trailer had a turntable back and front. As you followed them they could do a left turn as the unit went left
the bogie would go right for a split second and then left, the trailer bogie would follow in the identical wheel marks as the unit. You could go down a
narrow street with cars each side and come to a T juction which is single track and just turn any direction no problems…Sorry yes there was the trailer was
nealy a ton heavier than mine…Ensor became Merc agents for a while i don’nt know if they are still about,I had a new Merc 4 years ago and it was supplied by Cegily or something like that.

Hello everyone.
I worked for Williams Bros at their Denbigh depot in the early 70s it was known then as Williams, Treuddyn, cause Treuddyn near Mold was their orlginal depot. The man standing in front of WUN 57 (Gardner 150)is the late Glyn Williams from Denbigh, after WUN he had another Atki BCA 223C (Gardner 180) a double decker cattle and a 38 ft trailer. I dont know the one standing at the back.

Hiya …3/4 weeks ago. this chap he said c’mon move this truck or i will.I said please your self.he said i worked at Williams in the old days
(when they had a Dragon on the door) He was the trailer mecanic and tested their trailers.I said i rememered them having 8 legger Scanias.
But i never asked his name. He works for a company called Hertel doing heavy maintaince work in Shell stanlow.
I also saw two other chaps delivering rock salt into stanlow for Derbyshire’s Both was ex Williams one was Paul Davis. I don’t the other chaps
name but i knew both of them through a chap who lived on Anglesey (Daveth) White Knight on the cb who had worked for Pritchards in Bangor
untill he shut shop.

I clearly remember a 280O DAF of Williams Bros in the 80’s - I was 9 at the time. I lived in Chester and a friend lived on a housing estate halfway through completion, meaning lots of trucks to look at! This machine arrived one day, an impressive machine to say the least, and the reg? CMA 699X, hows that for memory :sunglasses:

williams had two 2800 dafs, as you correctly recall CMA 699X and there was CMA 700X saw them both on livestock

regards Andrew.

Hi 143topline, thought so, in fact I remember on one occasion stopping in Exeter Services with the F88 before heading out to North Devon Meats at Torrington, I had just pulled out in front of one of their F12s, so I put a bit of a scoot on, knowing that they wouldnt be far behind me, also knowing that although the F12 had a lot more power, it didnt handle as well as my 88 on the tight and twisty,( my 88 was a lot lower on the 5th wheel) sure enough as I pulled into the lairage at Torrington in came the Williams F12 with smoke pooring from the trailer brakes, having tried to catch the my old girl all the way,had he cought me on the long pull up to Torrington I wouldnt have been able to keep him behind, so loosing the unloading place.
regards Andrew.

I know /knew Dafydd bach (little David) well.Haven’t seen him for a good while now. After Brian Pritchard gave haulage up to do some farming,Dafydd went on to TDG,and was loving it.Last saw him in Lymm about 10 yrs ago.Had to look twice as he’d put on some weight(sorry,Daf). He was always a racing snake! Strange there’s no photos of the tidy Brian Pritchard fleet on here.Got some somewhere(used to do a bit of P/T there).Have to get a scanner and find them first though
